made Pitt a favorite a few months ago. Now, however, the picture is considerably cloudier with Louisville recruiting Vargas hard, as well as the national champion Florida Gators.
Herz, a University of Florida alum, says that the Gators have come on strong lately and he thinks Billy Donovan may have recently offered a scholarship to his star player. If they did indeed extend an offer, Antigua and Pitt may find themselves with the daunting task of trying to pull a Latin American player out of the state of Florida ? and away from a program that just won two consecutive National Championships.
Florida is not the only hurdle for Pitt in their pursuit of Vargas. Florida State and Miami are also on the final list, a sign that the mostly Spanish-speaking teenager may feel more comfortable around people of a similar background.
Vargas also cites Louisville as a potential destination because of Cardinals? head coach Rick Pitino?s proven past success with Latino players.
