Mitchell Evans
Safety/Quarterback
West Milton, OH
Milton-Union H.S.

Height: 6-3
Weight: 195
40-time: 4.58

Mitchell is the all-time leading passer and holds the school record for career interceptions at Milton-Union (my alma-mater). Last season he was named first-team all district and first-team all-state in DIV. Passing he was 113-198 (57%) for 1990 yards with 20 TD's to only 5 INT's. He also rushed for 538 yards and 5 TD's. On defense, where I think he's best, he had 67 tackles and 6 INT's from his Free Safety spot. He showed well at the Jr. combine in San Antonio recently. tOSU invited him up for the Northwestern game this past season. He is a big tOSU fan.

I have actually played against Evans in a 7 on 7 and watched film on him against Tipp City last year. I really didn't see him much at safety, but he isn't an OSU material QB. I also went against Belton and Belton was the much more impressive QB, regardless of the talent around him. Possibly a smaller D1 school offer at QB, but I kind of doubt he gets a Big 10 offer unless he explodes this year. Defense might be a different story though, seeing as how I really wasn't looking for him on defense. I hope he does get an offer though since he is a local boy.

Mitchell is a much better safety prospect IMO. He's got football speed that is faster than his 4.58 that is listed. He will be a 4-year starter at both spots next year. He has 16 career interceptions. Great center-field type safety. Always around the ball. Only problem is though, the state is absolutely loaded at Safety next year. I think he's a B-10 Safety, and could possibly be a MAC level QB.

All I was looking at was him as a QB, so he could very well be a big-time safety because I didn't see him much at safety.

Scout.com has posted video of Evans in action.

Observations:

3 videos on offense and 1 on defense. Video is of low quality. Showed great mobility and the ability to throw on the run. Very accurate with an above average arm. On defense, has a knack for the ball and is a very good hitter.

As a former Bulldog who went to school with members of the coaching staff at Milton-Union, I will try to keep everyone up to date on Mitchell's recruiting. I know that he has already seen his stock soar after his performance at the combine, so much so that it has warranted visits from the coaches at Boston College and Stanford already. Boston College may be close to offering.

There's actually some talk in recruiting circles that he could be the top QB in OH next year, even over Belton and Smith... FWIW.

Its a possiblity, his film was similar to Smith's film. They both show a strong arm with above average mobility. I can't comment on Belton, I have not seen his film.

Camp performances will be the key........

I'm sorry but no way. There may be talk, but Smith and Belton are above and beyond Evans. I think Evans looks like a good defensive prospect but unless he really turned it on at the AA combine, there is no way he will be offered over Smith and Belton as a QB.

and there's no way some kid from Georgia gets offered over Hartline or Schlicter. fact is, Evans did light it up at the combine, but there is no guarantee any of them get an offer. I think we are a ways from offering a 2007 QB...
