By Mike Wachsman...OSU is coming on strong and offer is supposedly coming. Israel mentions OSU's NC and the players that have gone to the NFL. He would like to play baseball and football in college, although he could go the route of the MLB draft.

His other two favorites (Florida and South Carolina) are light years ahead of OSU in baseball. Luckily OSU has the edge in football. :)

Troupe rated top wide out in state

By Steve Carter

<!-- the next line starts looping through the grafs of the story --> TIFTON — Tift County Blue Devils wide receiver Israel Troupe is the top-rated senior at his position in the state of Georgia for the upcoming 2006 season, Scott Kennedy of the Scout.com Web site said Monday.
“We have him as the top wide receiver in the state and as the 22nd receiver in the country,” Kennedy said. “He is the top-rated overall player in your area.”
Troupe already has offers from several major Division I universities, but has not made his intentions known at this point.
Another Devil drawing national attention is Randy Parker. The senior defensive back has been a standout at summer camps and has also drawn attention because of his excellent grades at Tift County High.
“Randy should be getting a lot of offers,” Kennedy said. “He is light, but when we had him at our camp, he showed that he can fly to the ball.”
This past weekend, Parker was in Palo Alto, Calif., to attend a camp at Stanford University. Stanford is in the Pac-10 and is one of the top academic schools in the United States.
“He had a real good camp at Stanford,” Tift County head coach Jay Walls said. “He also had a good visit at the school.”
Walls added, “Randy has not received any offers yet that I am aware of, but he has drawn a lot of attention from several schools.”
A third Devil that has begun to attract college coaches is Jay Gaskins.
“We had him at our camp and he can play,” Kennedy said. “He is tall and thin, but he also has a lot of speed.”
Walls said, “Jay has gotten a lot of letters, but if he has a good year, we are expecting him to get a lot more attention from bigger schools.”
Besides the three Tift County Blue Devils, another local player that continues to draw attention is Berrien High Rebel lineman Tanner Strickland.
“He was the University of Georgia’s first commitment, and I have not heard anything to make me think they have lost interest in him,” Kennedy said.

Troupe narrows it down to top three

By Steve Carter

TIFTON — From all indications, it appears Blue Devil Israel Troupe will be playing in the Southeastern Conference when he concludes his athletic career at Tift County High School.

“I have my college choices down to my top three — South Carolina, Georgia and Florida,” Troupe said Tuesday. “But, I am also still interested in LSU, Louisville, Maryland and Ohio State.”

The Rivals.com Web site agrees with what Scout.com’s Scott Kennedy recently told the Tifton Gazette that Troupe is the top-rated wide receiver in the state of Georgia.

Rivals.com released its list of top 50 prospects in the state Tuesday and Troupe was rated as the top wide receiver and the No. 9 overall prospect in the state.

While the senior wide receiver is one of the state’s top prospects in football, Troupe wants a two-sport career in college as he also wants to play baseball at the next level.

Troupe, along with Tift County baseball teammate Christian Glisson, played last week in the World Wood Bat Association 2007 Grads or 17U National Championship Tournament in Atlanta

“We finished eighth out of 110 teams in the tournament,” Troupe said. “We ended up losing to the team that won the title.”

His desire to play baseball at the college level appears to have played a part in his top three university choices.

“South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and LSU have all said I could also play baseball,” Troupe said.

While he has narrowed down his selections, “I am still going to wait until I make my final decision. I am going to make my visits this fall and see how it goes.”

Tift County head football coach Jay Walls indicated he is excited about Troupe drawing college attention.

“This is a great honor for him. To get the offers he has received is a great opportunity for him,” Walls said. “He just needs to have the best senior year he can have in preparation for his college career.”

Even though he has been playing baseball this summer, Troupe has also been getting ready for the upcoming football season.

“I will be out there Saturday for the passing league tournament (that Tift County is hosting),” Troupe said.

The first-ever Tift County 7 on 7 Passing League Tournament will be held at noon Saturday at the high school practice fields. After the preliminary rounds, the playoffs and the finals will move to Brodie Field. The public is invited to attend.

Tifton receiver catches wide notice

By ANDRE' L. SHANNON

Israel Troupe is a wanted man.

Rated the No. 1 wide receiver in Georgia by Rivals.com, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound speedster from Tift County High is being wooed by major colleges from coast to coast, some of which he's never heard of.

"I get a few letters and I'm like, 'What school is this?' " Troupe said. "I'm thinking to myself, 'This school isn't even on the video game.' "

The letters continue to pour in, about seven arriving each day. Troupe gets especially excited when the mailman delivers something from a school in his current top three — Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

LSU, Maryland and Ohio State are also in the mix for Rivals' 16th-ranked receiver nationally.

"It feels nice to get all this attention," Troupe said. "Sometimes, though, it gets a bit overwhelming. It's crazy that I live in little old Tift County and everyone knows who I am."

Coming off of a junior season in which he scored three touchdowns by reception and another three on returns, the reigning Class AAAAA Region 1 offensive player of the year and his coach expect more of the same this season.

"I feel he may be better this year," Tift coach Jay Walls said. "I know there is a lot of attention and a lot of hype, but I told him, 'You have to go out there and prove it again this year.' I think he's going to do that."

Troupe's leaning toward an SEC East school has a lot to do with a sport other than football. He also excels at baseball and plans on playing both sports at the next level. Troupe already has received permission to play baseball and football at each of his top three choices.

Although Troupe said he doesn't have a clear favorite, he hears from Florida the most. He's in Gainesville this weekend competing in the Gators' "Friday Night Lights" camp.

Georgia recruit Troupe at a crossroads
Tifton star may choose between football, baseball

By CARTER STRICKLAND
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/26/07 Tifton ? Israel Troupe has made his choice.
Georgia. It's where the Tift County wide receiver wanted to be. Troupe even dreamed it one August night ? complete with a vision of Bulldogs coach Mark Richt coming out of the star recruit's closet and "asking me to come to Georgia." The next day, Troupe made it come true.

Tift County High's Israel Troupe is a Georgia football recruit at receiver and a potential high pick in the baseball draft.
Brant Sanderlin / AJC
Israel Troupe (center) has good, but not exceptional speed for a receiver, but his ability to cover ground in the outfield has made him an attractive baseball prospect.
But then there's this other dream of his. One that wouldn't include Georgia, football, even college. One that has Troupe signed and delivered to a Major League Baseball organization. One that might still come true.
