Clyde Yandell, A Once in a Lifetime Experience

By Steve Patterson

Senior Saint Augustine Florida Nease Offensive Lineman Clyde Yandell was on campus for the Ohio State/Michigan game. Find out what put Georgia Tech over the top and what he thought of ?The Game?.

Clyde Yandell a 6?5?, 305lbs offensive tackle from Saint Augustine Florida Nease is a dominating force on the offensive line along with tackle James Wilson, a Southern California verbal. Both recruits were at the Ohio State vs. Michigan game this year. We asked Clyde about his offensive line play. ?Most coaches were impressed by my athleticism/footwork for my size. Also my size itself was a big plus for coaches.?

Clyde moved from the defensive tackle position his junior year to the offensive tackle position his senior year, coaches began to notice him, and the Panther line came together. ?I think our offensive line with the exception of a game or two have done a really good job this year. I believe all season we have shown that we are a special unit and I say we because we are a unit each person has to contribute what they can in order for anyone to show off their personal special talents.? Clyde is a three year varsity letterman for Nease.

Making the visit with James to Columbus for an official visit gave Clyde the opportunity to see the best regular season game of the year. ?I visited Ohio State for the Ohio State vs. Michigan game. I was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived there for 8 years before moving to Florida so I knew how big the rivalry was. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Ohio State was a very nice university and it reminded me a lot of home being in the Midwest.? The Buckeyes did not offer on the official visit and Clyde remains committed to Georgia Tech.

Clyde is just as much a scholar as an athlete currently earning a 3.5 grade point average. We asked him what was important for him about a college football program and a college academic program. ?Going into the requiting process I wanted to find the best combination of academics and athletics that I could find, that was my main priority. Other intangibles included coaching, players, campus and location.?

He shot up the recruiting boards his senior year and finished with a good number of offers from some of the better schools in his area. ?I had somewhere around 25-30 scholarship offers including Georgia Tech where I am committed to. Along with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, most of the other ACC schools, Florida, Tennessee, Louisville and many various others.?

One of the things that he likes about Georgia Tech is the business opportunities in Atlanta where the school is located. ?I just felt that I had the most opportunities in terms of school and football. Also the coaches and players were great, it?s a nice campus and facilities. Atlanta is a great place for job opportunity and Atlanta is a fun place to be.?
