06' "Tresselball" recruits

Is it me, or is this class shaping up to be the ultimate "Tresselball" class?
ingredients...
1. Monster TB with track speed. (and a few more studs in the stable)
2. Monster blocking FB (Olson)
3. two Monster TE's.
4. Huge drop-back QB with rocket arm. (Schoenhoft)...or Boeckman

We will lose Troy's legs, so all of this seems to make perfect sense.

Finally, Tressel get's to play Tresselball. I can't friggin wait!

k. You might want to clarify your original post for future readers. So you are wondering how the '06 recruits will mesh with the young buckeyes to provide the perfect tresselball team.... right?

My bad. I was just noticing how Tress is setting the table for the future with this incoming class of smashmouth types. He seems to be focusing on a dominant running game given the drop-back quarterbacks on the roster going forward. These young QB's will be helped by a potentially great running attack, as Henton learns the system.
Sorry about the confusion.

not a big deal at all, just wanted to make sure I understood your topic, along with everyone else. I agree that Tresselball is looking nice for the future. Before #13 got hurt, Tressel put up a bunch of points with his "boring" offense in 02.

It was impossible for the staff to see that #13 was going to be gone, so they adapted rather quickly and used what they had in terms of personnel, with some expected hiccups along the way. To their credit, they have been successful, but you know they are licking their chops right now with these guys coming in.

Tress has always said he like using the I-formation. You start with the same formation on every play and have the ability to attack the whole field.

Agreed.

With the right personnel the I can be as deadly an offense as any. You better have a significant talent advantage and not be predictible in your play selection however.

So true, but imagine what this staff has learned offensively over the past couple of seasons as far as spreading the ball around. They can always go back to the one back sets if they need to. I like when they go into smashmouth mode in the fourth quarter. If the defense is playing well...control the clock. Then hit Hartline deep when the safety's creep up.

i agree the I formation will be used extensively as Beanie ran out of the I in high school and is probably better suited for the I form instead of the spread. I think the spread may be used some maybe with Robbie out of the shotgun and Mo Wells in the backfield as he is a better fit out of the spread. IMO, Chris Wells is a I back with a fullback (Olson:biggrin: ) as the upback and Mo will be brought in as a third down speed back and in spread forms.
question, what type of offense did Robbie run at St. Xavier, i believe it was the I.

Robbie played more of a spread offense his junior year, especially after Elliot Walker (X's starting RB) was lost for the season due to a torn ACL early in the first GCL game. In 2005, Robbie's senior year, we had the GCL player of the year in junior Chris Cionni, a good offensive line, along with a good tight end. This made for more of an I-based attack. In his time at X, Robbie played both but I really thought he looked more comfortable in the I. From what I've seen of him I'm very confident he can be a solid QB in an I-formation offense with the O line and recievers he'd be working with.

Let's not forget our two huge blocking TE's coming in. I may be in the minority here, but I believe they stay at TE and they become a value blocking tool. They used Tyree to great effect as a blocking TE, but he is a OL. They will have two guys that love to block, and can catch the ball, plus they can be the redzone threat Hartsock was.
