According to MDVarsity.com, Gbadyu is the number 11 prospect in the state of Maryland for the class of 2006. Bani has 16 offers, including from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Boston College, Michigan State, and Penn State.

Bani is originally from Liberia, but left the war-torn country as a child while his parents remained behind; his father was able to emigrate to the States five years ago, but his mother's whereabouts are unknown. A very interesting and touching story, told in great depth in the following articles:

Nebraska Rivals - part I (05/19/05)
Nebraska Rivals - part II (05/19/05)

At the recent Elite Combine, Gbadyu posted a standing broad jump of 10 feet 8 inches (camp best), a 4.62 40-yard time, and a 4.21 shuttle time.

Penn State Rivals (05/23/05)

Although he does not have a scholarship offer from Ohio State, Bani is interested in the Bucks.

bani received six new offers in the past few days as Virginia Tech, Ohio State, NC State, Oregon, Cincinnati, and Northwestern all jumped in the fray. He does not have a favorite, but calls LSU, Nebraska, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio State, Boston College, NC State, and Syracuse schools of interest.

From the Virginia Tech site...Bani has narrowed his list to 6 school in no particular order: Penn State, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, LSU, Nebraska and Boston College. About OSU, Bani says that they need linebackers and he is impressed with how the coaching staff has turned A.J. Hawk into an All-American caliber LB.

From BSB (Mike Wachsman)...Georgia and Rutgers are the most recent to offer. Bani has close to 35 offers. Bani favors LSU, OSU, Penn State, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Boston College, Tennessee, Nebraska and Michigan State. His five visits will come from that group of schools. Bani's father originally encouraged him to play soccer when hsi movie moved to America from Liberia. Bani and Coach Fickell have struck up a friendship and he is strongly considering the Buckeyes.

Great news. We are starting making a great push into Maryland, a place where PSU and the ACC schools used to feast.

And guess what AllBigTen First Team candidate happens to be from Liberia as well?? Mr Youboty... That has to be encouraging to a kid knowing there is someone else here with the similar background. This along with the LB tradition and opening spots should keep us near the top of his list.

Excellent point...considering we are most likely going to get one of Bani's five official visits. Despite the positional difference, I would be shocked if Ashton wasn't Bani's host during his visit. He and his dad should be coming to Columbus together.

I can't follow the link, but Gbadyu seems like an intriguing prospect for OSU. Liberia is a long ways away, and with AY already prospering here, it could be a huge draw for him. Following this thread, I see that since the time we offered, we've been right in the thick of things. And he noticed our need for LB's, sounds like a smart kid.

I think we have a tremendous shot at Bani...

He reminds me a bit of Abdel Banda, who committed to ND in 2004. Similar backstories if my memory serves me correctly. Abdel was pretty unpolished, but had all the measurable you could want when he came out of Morristown, NJ. Not sure if he had done anything at ND yet.

the good thing about bani is that he seems to mention osu and AJ Hawk first quite often when he is interviewed.

however, he seems to speak rather highly of lsu as well.

I think if osu makes a strong push for him, they have a good shot, but we'll see what happens after he takes an unofficial to the bayou.
