I think Kharch will make it back finally with a clean bill of health next year. It's been a long road for that dude, he should've got that knee fixed 3 years ago. Sasso I am more skeptical about after hearing him speak and watching him limping around the mat. I'd say about 40/60...
Two duals this weekend with Md. on Friday @ home and Wisc. Sunday afternoon @ Wisc.
Only Wilcox (157) and Geog (197) are facing higher seeds vs. Terps.
Against the Badgers the wrestlers vs. higher seeds are McCrone (125) Hepner (165) Welsh (174) and Shumate (184).
Go Bucks..we need these two...
Think I heard the announcer (Matt O'Hara, former wrestler) say Wilcox this season has wrestled 157#,165#,and 174# matches. Guy should be up for team MVP just for controlling his weight that well ! Not to mention he's very competitive every match. Every time I've seen Ed Ruth he's wrestled like...
Not sure we'll see Feldman. I know it's a gamble sending him on the mat with his knee problem, he probably shouldn't have wrestled last week
but his competitive spirit won out. It may be a late decision. Also a real shame to hear Paddy's done for another season. He's not the most
talented guy...
One of the best duals I've ever seen. I watched it with my wife who doesn't know the first thing about wrestling. When she saw Feldman get that double leg in the last 10 secs. to win his match and the dual she went nuts. I asked her who her favorite Buckeye was thinking it would be Feldman but...
Unbelievable opening with three straight falls against a highly ranked NCState. But the real hero was Rocco Welsh with a {literally} last second take down to win the match and the duel. Overall a darn good effort by the Bucks today. Only downer is the word that Kharchla's season sounds like...
Forgot that some of the freshmen + sophs wrestled Saturday at the Mich.St.Open. (freshman/sophomore division). Brock Herman took the title at 149# and Andre Gonzales took 2nd in the 133# division losing a tiebreaker to Michigan's Ragusin 7-6. Vinny Kilkeary took 3rd at 125# and
Gavin Brown...
I agreed with your thoughts on McCrone until his 2nd straight win today as he pinned his opponent from Edinboro St. in 1:05 of 1st period. Of course everyone else in the lineup either pinned or teched in the biggest blowout I've ever witnessed. Well, almost everyone... score was 53-0.
Several thoughts...1.whoever lit that fire under McCrone better report to Ryan Day tomorrow because the f.b. Bucks offensive line
could use some of that! 2. Bouzakis had a bad weekend last week but he turned it on tonight in the 3rd period and almost upset#4 Latona.
I think Nick will be...
Going up against highly regarded Va.Tech tonight in the first dual of the season... here are the matchups per the OSU site
125 McCrone (OSU) vs.Venestra
133 Bouzakis(OSU) vs Latona
141 Mendez(OSU) vs.Mason
149 D'Emilio (OSU) vs. Henson
157 Gallagher (OSU) vs. Andonian (his hs teammate and one of...
Last weekend at the Clarion Open the season got underway. Lots of Buckeyes were entered in the tournament and even Sammy Sasso
was there to support the guys as an (unofficial) coach. There were some real encouraging signs and a few not as much. #125 looks like it will be a weak spot as the two...
Speaking of Sammy...he showed up at a practice last week to wish the guys well and someone asked him
if he'd be back next season . Don't have the exact quote but in typical Sammy bravado he said something like
"I'll be back next year even if I have to wrestle on my knees".
Yeah I goofed on the...
New commitment from Hwt. Carter Neves who recently de-committed from Stanford. He's ranked as #4 Hwt. in
the class of 2024. He visited the Buckeyes recently along with 125# stud Leo Deluca who actually was the only person
to defeat Marcus Blaze in high school. Deluca and Neves are rumored to be...
Thoughts from the Wrestle-Offs ....
Most Dominant Wrestlers...1. Paddy Gallagher. wrestled TJ Schierl ( brother of former Buckeye Fritz Schierl) and threw him around like a
ragdoll. Ref stopped it early in the 2nd.
2. Nick Feldman. Finally got to see Feldman on the mat. Opponent Hogan Swenski...
FLO says Hoffman is dropping to 184 for his final season. Jaggers says the same. I think Hoffman feels he has a better shot
against Shumate than against Geog. Jaggers says Hoffman has already cut weight and with those long arms and legs will
give opponents an unusual look at '84.
From Flo..
Big news coming out of Iowa...several Iowa wrestlers apparently suspended for the season due to gambling (I assume on sports) and today
the names were released...Tony Cassioppi, Nelson Brands, Abe Assad, and Cobe Siebrecht. All have been suspended for this coming season.
Others...
We are of the same mind re: the ankle ride, I expect the next step will be doing away with riding time altogether. The suits want to see more bonus points (as you say) and falls and less riding out the clock. Even Coach Ryan says the sport needs more high scoring to keep the casual fans interested.
