  1. Game Thread Ohio State vs Army, 09/16/17 @ 4:30 ET (FOX)

I felt the game plan was better today. They got the ball out of JTs hands and put it in our playmakers hands. The question becomes can they build the playbook up enough to keep a good team guessing without having JT drop back and make multiple reads. They definitely worked alot on screens...
  2. 2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

I think the horizontal threat works hand in hand with the vertical threat. Past teams has players who were both threats in the run game and a vertical threat. I think the hybrid position is prime example of how this has changed. Paris Campbell and KJ Hill are WR playing the hybrid position...
  3. 2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

It's not just the lack of using the RBs to be playmaking threats. The hybrid position has just turn to a 3rd receiver, there is no threat of them being a running threat so there isn't a mismatch. Also JT isn't a threat to run outside of a design run. Once JT drops back the threat of JT...
  4. Oklahoma Aftermath

I think Haskins and Burrows are more pro type QBs than JT or Braxton were. Cardale was built as good as any pro type QB. Charlie Day just needs to stay around long enough to develop Haskins or Burrows. JTs development was hurt by not having a good QB coach or OC after Herman. Tim Beck was a...
  5. 2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

I think the coaching staff has two choices. The first is to come to terms with JTs limitations and adjust the play calling accordingly. Scale back his read and make more of an effort to get the ball into playmakers hands. The second is to change QBs which will automatically scale back reads...
  6. QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion, OSU HOF, QB Coach Chicago Bears)

Alot of it come down to JT being hesitant to throw the ball. Maybe if they don't give him as many options in his progression it will help this. One or two reads then run the ball or dump it down. Make the route require a quick pass. I feel like he is making 3 or 4 reads and everything breaks...
  7. Oklahoma Aftermath

I don't think JT has much of a draft stock, I think he is a 6 or 7th rounder at this point. I don't think any team uses a draft pick on him that they aren't willing to burn by cutting him before the season starts. Do I think Urban sees it the same way? No, I think he likes JT too much to...
  8. Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

I think people are looking too much into Wilson vs Urban's offense. I think what it comes down to is JT not being able to make multiple reads and adjusting his passes on the fly to the defense. I think he can make the throws but he can't make the adjustments in timing as he goes further into...
  9. Oklahoma Aftermath

I feel like the offensive philosophy was to "get the ball into guys hands and let them make a play." Now I think they have gone to "go make a play to get the ball." Just look how we have gotten the ball into the hybrid position players this season and last vs before that. We use to have quick...
  10. Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

Was Tebow making a bunch of in the pocket decisions as JT is asked to do now? I wonder if Meyer feels like he didn't develop Tebow enough to be NFL ready. Urban's offense seems to work best with single reads and plays building on plays to create mistakes on the defense.
  11. Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

Is it the OC and offensive staff trying to prove we can have a passing game as a team or prove that JT can throw and be a NFL QB? I agree we have to go back to what we do well, run the ball and get the ball into playmakers hands. Stretch the defense east/west with running the ball and...
  12. Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

He use to be great at throwing a screen in stride to the a RB or WR. I think Herman made a point of it and he can't even throw any pass without the receiver standing still.
  13. Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

I question how much of Urban's offense is actually being called. We didn't see any of the typical Hybrid position plays. We aren't setting up plays with the run. What has been lost is all the counters that Herman use to run, each set had plays that set up other plays. I don't even know...
  14. The Basketball Tournament (Carmen's Crew = 2019 and 2024 Champions)

I hope so too. They definitely need to get a better backup point guard, maybe Shannon Scott. I would love to see Deshaun Thomas and LaQuinton Ross play, just to see how much they have improved over the years.
  15. 2017 Offensive Coordinator Discussion

I wonder if Warriner is staying will he be named assistant head coach since Fickell had that title. It won't be a demotion if he goes from co-OC to assistant head coach, more of a lateral move. Urban can spin it that Warriner being down on the field was a bigger for the team than having him in...
  16. HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Samuel and Wilson share alot of the same traits but the offensive staff seem to move Wilson away from running the ball this year. I think that was a mistake, having two guys like Wilson and Samuel who could flex in and out of the backfield could have added alot more wrinkles to the offense...
  17. HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

I saw him line up at receiver and remember think that he might get some carries after Webber fumbled, which I was surprised he didn't. I think he is a prime example of a guy that this current staff just didn't utilize properly, Herman really knew how to use him alot better.
  18. 2017 Offensive Coordinator Discussion

I think it isn't just the development of Mariota but the offensive philosophy Helfrich used when he took the HC job at Oregon. I think it aligns better with Urban Meyer wanting to run a balanced attack. He also knew when to use tempo and was better about not gasing out the defense. Chip...
  19. Tim Beck (OC USF)

Urban Meyer won't throw them under the bus. He will give them every chance to get another job before announcing the new hiring. He doesn't want their careers to be ruined. It might be a division 2 head coaching job or an assistant in the NFL.
  20. Tim Beck (OC USF)

After watching those two videos it makes me hate him even more. They were definately trying to use more pro style concepts in the passing game, relying on the players to make reads and being in sync on offense. The problem with this is it is unnecessarily too complex for the college game...
