Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

According to this article, the total NIL package for the duo is "high seven figures" so Louisville is paying nearly $8M for two players. The article also says that high end college basketball programs are spending $20M+ on their rosters for next season...

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

FYI, the claim is Bidunga and Shelstad were some kind of package deal for Louisville. What's the package deal, 2 for $7M? I'm curious if there was some kind of discount to bundle them together. They probably had the same agent, and in the NIL era, agents have taken hold and gained a lot of...

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

Yeah, Louisville is paying out $$$$$$$ today. UM Is going to get Juke Harris, who is one of the top recruits, but even with that, this offseason could be a disappointment for Dusty May - last year they got Lendeborg to pull out of the draft, let's see if they do it again with Morez Johnson and...

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

There's definitely an element of desperation to the transfer portal. A lot of these coaches are losing half or more of their roster at the end of the season. Many of those players are lost (with varying levels of expectation by the coaches) to the portal. The fact that top high school...

Juke Harris played for Wake Forest this season, and lost to UM head-to-head. Now he's celebrating the title. Cuck.

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

NIL is based on wealthy donors contributing to the program. Duke has a ton of NBA guys, so does Kentucky, UNC, Kansas. OSU doesn't have that many former NBA guys to kick in to NIL. Some other programs might not have a rich history of pros, but they might have other rich donors instead who...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I don't think that I would go that far. They can get one star per season like Anthony Thompson or Bruce Thornton, and when those stars come they do get enhanced. Bruce Thornton developed really well over 4 years, he was getting better and better every season. But they will not have a team of...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

The coach isn't the problem as much as the funding is the problem. Coaches like Calipari and May chose not to come to OSU because the roster funding was better elsewhere. OSU football is the priority for roster funding. OSU men's basketball absolutely is in a position where the coach has to...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

It's definitely a tough game for OSU to have to play. The game outside of the game. They can't pay up to get the top players in the portal, but they have to find guys who can be part of a team that can compete with them, which is where scouting and projection comes into play. For example, Cal...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Agreed Pippen is a good get, but Jelavic seems just OK. Certainly they will add more players, it's not over by a longshot, but ideally we'll have more quality depth than last season.

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Based on how the roster is shaping up, defense and rebounding are red flag areas. They lost their two toughest and strongest players in Thornton and Royal. Who on this team is going to bring the physicality that it takes to win tough college basketball games?

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I don't like rushing things. I think they rushed it last season, they went and almost immediately got Gabe Cupps, which did not turn out well. If they are paying a premium to get these guys committed early, it's dumb. There's certainly no reason to push to get Jelavic quickly - not sure what...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Yeah, based on the bigs OSU was going after in the portal, it seems they are counting on Ojianwuna to be the main man there. Plus, they wanted a stretch F/C to help fit the offense perhaps better than JO does.

#1 rated transfer C Flory Bidunga is reportedly asking for $5M for one season. Duke is involved. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/dukes-top-transfer-portal-target-154446046.html

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I do like Justin Pippen to be a starter for OSU. You have to remember Juni Mobley is limited defensively, so anyone you are going to pair with him in the backcourt for any length of time must be a strong defender. Pippen is in the 90th+ percentile in block and steal percentage, also an elite...

    2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Yeah, that's the part I wanted to clap back on. No way is he comparable to Devin Royal. Justin Pippen is a combo guard. Devin Royal is a tweener SF/PF. You could see Justin Pippen play at the 3 possibly in a small lineup but that is unlikely to be where he fits in most of the time.

So now top-tier transfers are going for about $3M/yr.
