Anderson Russell is now in serious Thorpe contention with his play this year. They added his name to the watch list this morning.
But then they dropped it.
Anderson Russell does a good job reading the quarterback and closing on a receiver, and it results in a lot of balls thrown right at him...
It was probably more of a "try and see" thing by Tressel. Pretorious has had very low kicks. He had a FG blocked because he didn't get the ball up enough, but on kickoffs that equates to outkicking your coverage. It doesn't surprise me that Jimmy Sweatervest is looking at other options.
I love...
Just kidding, man. I'm just thrilled to see Cincy doing so well. I've got friends there.
Also, the longsnapping seemed to be better this week than in the other games. Good thing.
A few preliminary thoughts on the game.
1. That was a Jim Tressel Blowout. Defense dominated, Purdue was never in the game, Ohio State just controlled the game from start to finish.
2. This secondary, wow. Just wow. Four big time receivers for Purdue, and they couldn't muster a single point...
For anyone who's saying a blackout is stupid and will just look like nobody's there...the point of a color-out isn't just for the players to be intimidated. It lets the players know the entire stadium is behind them, and in the words of Thad Matta himself, unites the fans. Even if it looks like...
I hope they run swing passes and reverses and end-arounds to Bryant. I love the way our defense stays in position and handles these types of plays.
The WR screen though, Chekwa and Washington sometimes have problems getting off blocks.
I think Purdue is a solid team. I think they're good, and they're a test for Ohio State. But I agree that going from the Toledos and Notre Dames to the best defense in the Big Ten with a capable offense is going to give them fits. Fortunately we've had Washington on the road, and Minnesota at...
From what I see of Painter, he makes good decisions and is less likely to try to force a play that ends up in an interception. He has a 6:1 TD to INT ratio right now. What I mean is that if Purdue is driving the ball on us, we're far less likely to get a momentum-shifting interception than we...
Considering just how weak and terrible the Big Ten is [sic] the conference sure is looking tough. Playtime for the Buckeyes is over. They get one rest next week against Kent State, but all 6 of the remaining Big Ten games are at the least "trap games," at most downright scary.
Painter's the...
Agree. He makes good decisions, checks off well, and throws good passes for most of the game. It's that part of the game that isn't "most" that holds him back from actually being a solid starting QB.
Agree. Rob is a good QB, but he's not cut out for this. He looks to take off as soon as he...
Over the years as I've learned more about the intricacies of the game (being 20, that makes the majority of the time during Tressel's reign), I've started to get a bigger appreciation for Tressel's "questionable" play calling.
The entire year, Jim will run the ball on his own 20 on 3rd and 15...
Bacher and Sutton last year gave our defense some fits considering the utter lack of talent surrounding them. It would be good this year to see how our defense has changed against Mr. Football Ohio and a fairly good QB. I guess maybe I've taken too many classes at the Jim Tressel School of...
The offense is looking pretty sharp, except for Boeckman.
I wonder what's up? He's just playing stupid. He needs to be sat down, and given a good pep talk.
Locker has shown the impressive inability to deal with blitzes. Let the Animal loose on him, and he'll choke a few times. That's what BSU did in the second half, and Washington's vaunted offense was...well, useless.
