  1. OL Reid Fragel (Official Thread)

Concur. I think there's some hesistation on both sides (Fragel and UM) though because it appears as if Fragel wants to play TE... I don't think he gets offered to UM at TE though.

Yeah, Gittleson wasn't well liked by most fans. Supposedly, he was one of the pioneers in the field, but most felt as if time past him by. Barwis is an upgrade, but probably no better than anyone else at a major program.

It's worth pointing out in the article above that RB Carlos Brown broke a finger (weight lifting accident) and will be out the majority of the spring. Brown was one of the candidates to take snaps as the "running" QB.

For the record, I think it's garbage that college students are taking "how to use a daytime planner" courses. However, that doesn't make what UM is doing "illegal"... just embarrassing. I'm sure some of the athletes taking these independent study classes need the one-on-one instruction, but...

Disagree about running style. I would say Minor is more of a physical running back, while Brown is more of a homerun hitter. That being said, I'm not sure either have the patience or vision for a zone blocking scheme... Grady for that matter too. There is a real art to reading blocks...

Agreed. Master of the "lookout block". Those are the worst for QBs.

His worst habit is that he turns his back at contact and tries to "back" into people. Now, some have argued that his shoulder was banged up during the season, but this is still a very bad habit.

You do make a compelling argurment. Plus he will be working out with Mike Barwis. That's gotta make him a 99 in speed, agility, acceleration, and awesomeness for NCAA '08... which has to count for something. He already had a 99 in jumping, but you already knew that.

Barring injury, I really don't expect McGuffie to play this year. He's still got a lot of bad habits to break and could use a year to develop physically. There's no need for him to play nor do I think he's that much more talented than the RBs ahead of him.

I really think Steven Threet will be the starting QB. Now, he's not a fit for the prototypical RR, but he's not chopped liver. IIRC, both major recruiting networks had him as the #10-15 QB in the 2007 class. That won't make up for inexperience and the fact that he's been through a lot in a small...

If you can watch any of the film on Stonum, there's a Buckeye he reminds a lot of UM fans of in terms of running style... reminds a lot of us of Ted Ginn in that he doesn't appear to lose a lot of speed while cutting. Not quite as quick as TG, but similar. Getting into spring practices should...

Also, I'm not ready to label Hemingway or Matthews as the next anybody. Decent talent, questionable speed and unproven. Both have the size to be quality blockers. I wouldn't be suprised to see FR Darryl Stonum on the outside like MM was in '05. WOTS is he's the fastest WR on the team so far.
  20. 2007 TSUN News

As skeptical as I am, there's always the "well, this is UM" argument. As inexperienced as the OL are as a whole, they should be better (more talented) than some of their opposition. Also, some of the blocking schemes won't change much, particularly the inside zone series. That will help some...
