  1. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I agreed with your thoughts on McCrone until his 2nd straight win today as he pinned his opponent from Edinboro St. in 1:05 of 1st period. Of course everyone else in the lineup either pinned or teched in the biggest blowout I've ever witnessed. Well, almost everyone... score was 53-0.
  2. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Yeah I was thinking mismatch for sure at 125, I was right in a way...it WAS a mismatch! McCrone wrestles like that all year it's problem solved.
  3. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Several thoughts...1.whoever lit that fire under McCrone better report to Ryan Day tomorrow because the f.b. Bucks offensive line could use some of that! 2. Bouzakis had a bad weekend last week but he turned it on tonight in the 3rd period and almost upset#4 Latona. I think Nick will be...
  4. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Going up against highly regarded Va.Tech tonight in the first dual of the season... here are the matchups per the OSU site 125 McCrone (OSU) vs.Venestra 133 Bouzakis(OSU) vs Latona 141 Mendez(OSU) vs.Mason 149 D'Emilio (OSU) vs. Henson 157 Gallagher (OSU) vs. Andonian (his hs teammate and one of...
  5. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Last weekend at the Clarion Open the season got underway. Lots of Buckeyes were entered in the tournament and even Sammy Sasso was there to support the guys as an (unofficial) coach. There were some real encouraging signs and a few not as much. #125 looks like it will be a weak spot as the two...
  6. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Speaking of Sammy...he showed up at a practice last week to wish the guys well and someone asked him if he'd be back next season . Don't have the exact quote but in typical Sammy bravado he said something like "I'll be back next year even if I have to wrestle on my knees". Yeah I goofed on the...
  7. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

New commitment from Hwt. Carter Neves who recently de-committed from Stanford. He's ranked as #4 Hwt. in the class of 2024. He visited the Buckeyes recently along with 125# stud Leo Deluca who actually was the only person to defeat Marcus Blaze in high school. Deluca and Neves are rumored to be...
  8. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Thoughts from the Wrestle-Offs .... Most Dominant Wrestlers...1. Paddy Gallagher. wrestled TJ Schierl ( brother of former Buckeye Fritz Schierl) and threw him around like a ragdoll. Ref stopped it early in the 2nd. 2. Nick Feldman. Finally got to see Feldman on the mat. Opponent Hogan Swenski...
  9. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

FLO says Hoffman is dropping to 184 for his final season. Jaggers says the same. I think Hoffman feels he has a better shot against Shumate than against Geog. Jaggers says Hoffman has already cut weight and with those long arms and legs will give opponents an unusual look at '84.
  10. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

From Flo.. Big news coming out of Iowa...several Iowa wrestlers apparently suspended for the season due to gambling (I assume on sports) and today the names were released...Tony Cassioppi, Nelson Brands, Abe Assad, and Cobe Siebrecht. All have been suspended for this coming season. Others...
  11. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

We are of the same mind re: the ankle ride, I expect the next step will be doing away with riding time altogether. The suits want to see more bonus points (as you say) and falls and less riding out the clock. Even Coach Ryan says the sport needs more high scoring to keep the casual fans interested.
  12. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Saw on You Tube that the scoring system for College Wrestling has been changed quite a bit this off-season. A takedown will now be worth 3 pts.and so will a near fall. Also the {infamous) ankle ride will now be illegal and if it is re-used will be a stalling call. How you guys feel about these ...
  13. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Buckeyes add 125-pounder Peyton Fenton to their roster. Wrestled at Elyria H.S. where he won state one year and placed 3rd another year. Wrestled for U. of Virginia last year. He will compete with Gonzalez, Kilkeary, and McCrone in a 4-way battle to start at 125. In other news, congrats to...
  14. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Vic Voinovich, a National Qualifier this season from Oklahoma State at 149#, has entered the portal. His record this past year was 16-1. This is only newsworthy here because he is an Ohioan that wrestled at Brecksville H.S. and won two Ohio wrestling state titles. Maybe he'll be interested in...
  15. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Big-time commit today for Coach Ryan and the Buckeyes as Ben Davino from St.Charles, Illinois became an Ohio State Buckeye! Davino wrestles at 126# right now and still has another h.s.season to go before he heads to Columbus. He is a 3 time state champ and his overall h.s. record stands at 119...
  16. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Everything I've read indicates Sammy will wrestle next season. He has one more year thanks to Covid. Hoffman I think has not decided yet if he will also use his "extra year". In other news, Jordan Decatur has entered the portal. Not sure if he knows where he's going but good luck to the guy who...
  17. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I think Sasso may remain at 49 for his final season if he can hold the weight because that weight should be fairly wide open at the national level. Agree on Paddy but he may go 65 if they do move Kharchla up. Not in favor of that move but I've heard rumors and even some think he may take a red...
  18. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

IMO yes he does, but not the 23-24 season. I think next season will see 127 -Vinny Kilkeary, 133-Nic Bouzakis and 141-Dylan D'Emilio with Mendez redshirting primarily to build up his body for 141 in 24-25 season. Just my opinion...
  19. Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

RBO7OSU posted : " Mendez at #14.# Actually it just came out that Mendez moved up to #13 because 11th seed McGonigal (Lehigh) sustained a recent injury that has sidelined him from Nationals. Tough break, but for Mendez it means his 2nd round opponent would now be McGhee instead of Arujao.
