Best, no. Deepest, yes. Easily. "Better" is pretty subjective but tends to encompass both "deepest" and "has the best teams". The ACC lacks the latter but locks down the former, which to me is proof enough that at the very least, when people used to try and lump the ACC in with the Big East...
On the other hand, so is the ACC's 8th best team.
Wake beat Ole Miss, after all. Maryland clobbered Cal. Both were 8-4 and 4th in their conferences. Northwestern too (9-3 though)....and Duke, the ACC's worst, came thisclose to beating them. Nebraska was 8-4, 2nd in their division, and...
Mike Groh was a shitty offensive coordinator. I blame the playcalling directly for why we are not going to a bowl. And specifically, one absolutely atrocious playcall against Miami that cost us a chance at scoring when all we needed was a field goal.
I don't buy the theory. All of the matchups but two are against the Big 12 and SEC, which also put two teams in the BCS. One that isn't is Big Ten champ vs. Pac-10 champ. Probably the only one where that applies is Wiscy/FSU, and there, you're right: butts in the seats is the thing, with that...
Ohio State (10) vs. Texas (3)
- Texas, close-ish.
Penn State (8) vs. USC (5)
- USC, close game.
Michigan State (18) vs. Georgia (15)
- MSU, very close one.
Iowa (26) vs. South Carolina (39)
- South Carolina, close-ish.
Northwestern (22) vs. Missouri (25)
- Prison rape alert. Missouri by...
Wait, why would classless comments be any more or less classless just because they were in front of a camera? And FWIW, I think Gilyard is an absolutely stand-up individual; for the way he stopped to apologize to that little kid he accidentally ran over, for one, and for another, he pretty...
Isn't that that punter who stabbed the other punter?
Right on. This is a pretty subjective question, and to me, not about stats (otherwise Texas Tech would dominate the discussion) or hardware. No one even came close to VY when it came to being that dominant force on the field.
Don't confuse the lack of a really good marquee team with being a bad conference. Guess which conference set a record this year with 10 bowl bids? (And was thisfuckingclose to making it 11.)
I like Ball State-Tulsa. Both of them were top-20 at one point, which is weird because they're Ball State and Tulsa.
Maryland-Nevada will probably be a blowout. It's worth watching to find out which one gets the beatdown. Maryland's capable of beating a lot of good teams, but sometimes they...
Part of the problem - and this is pure unadulterated opinion here - is that while it sounds really neato to have all these cool matchups every year, to me it'd get old fast. Assume eight teams - over a ten-year span, really those eight teams would come from a pool of about 20 of the same teams...
Tracked a few pages ago, but now that the bowl matchups are out we can do this officially. These are the 89 teams that have won a bowl game since ND's last. If this list is wrong I'll blame OHSportsFan9 for [censored]ing up my list :tongue2:
Air Force, Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State...
Vince Young. Only player on the field who never needed any help making a play. Even Adrian Peterson couldn't do anything unless the quarterback handed off to him. I swear I saw his 4th down, game-winning TD run in the Rose Bowl happen, before it actually happened. There was just this feeling...
Hey, that's progress! That's like twice what it was last year, with the same teams playing, and 200 miles further down the road.
It goes to show two things: 1, people won't travel twice, and 2, the ACC is retarded for not hosting the game in Charlotte.
