First half observations:
1) Sometimes it takes awhile for this offense to make adjustments, but when they do we can be very explosive. Love our offensive staff and feel that when we get a couple recruiting classes in here under Meyer, we'll be a Top 10 offense.
2) Saw no improvements...
Well done piece.. Meyer discussed the boundary vs field issue sometime this week.. I wonder if his good friend Tedford cued him or if it's a simple problem that was easily seen on tape (this would be more alarming given that our defensive coordinator didn't seem capable of making the adjustments...
Going to be hard. Both Bryant and Barnett have a ton of experience and these issues have plagued them for over a year now. Maybe this is simply what the are. Not even sure what we could do to send a message. I suppose OJ could earn a shot at one of the safety spots and maybe give another kid a...
First big run was the result of a poor tackle attempt by OJ Johnson about 5 yards into the carry, and a poor angle back Barnett.. However, Shazier could have stopped that play for a 8-10 yard gain, but he didn't wrap up the stumbling RB.. as a result, the kid broke down the sideline for another...
Thought the Dline was solid today. Four guys aren't going to be able to stuff the run though. You need your LBs and Safeties to fill holes, take proper pursuit angles, and get the man down. Neither unit is even average at doing that right now. Worst part is that the talent behind those starters...
It's always nice to get a win, but in a season like this one where we're not eligible to play in January, the key focus for me is the improvement and development of the units and the players week to week.
I leave this game with a ton of coaching and personnel questions on the defensive side...
Does our first defensive player ever make the tackle.. seems like the offensive player needs to break 1-2 tackles per run before we do anything about getting him down
There have been two very good throws to Smith for big yards... pass to Stoneburner for 40... Not sure why we aren't throwing it more. Oline has pass protected very well
Quick Thoughts:
1) The two Linsley penalties seemed to kill our offensive momentum in second quarter.
2) Braxton has been excellent in the pass game IMO. Probably could have gone through progressions better a couple times, but that can be said of most QBs.
3) Oline has been tremendous...
Offense will b fine... defense.is major issue... LBs and safeties continue to blow assignments and miss tackles... your defense cannot succeed when that happens... furthermore and surprisingly...the dline has not played well through 1.5 games... CBs are only unit playing at high level right now
Watched game a second time.
Better than originally thought.
Not to pick on a player, but CJ Barnett probably accounted for 100-150 of the Miami passing yards. He was responsible for the two big first quarter plays (one he incorrectly passed on a receiver to Travis Howard, and second took a...
This. Don't expect to see us jamming guys and playing man. We haven't really done that in recent history and based on preseason comments by the staff, we are actually going to be playing "off" even more than usual.
Agree with the other comments though about letting the pass rushers just get...
Liked Meyer's halftime interview "We need to hit this guy, we're going to start rolling through Dlinemen".. Enter Spence and Washington.. More pressure but still not enough.. But yeah, first half we played a lot of our run stuffing type Dlinemen.. despite the fact it seemed evident that Miami...
Thoughts:
- This freshman class is going to be very good. Thought we saw some better pressure in second half when Spence and Washington saw increased reps. Schutt also had his name called 2-3 times late in the game. Marcus had a nice tackle on special teams, Reeves looked like he could be an...
