1. This has been argued 100 times over here, but no, they certainly could've held onto him. David Griffin would've surveyed the market, decided not to force a trade for one of the 10 best players in the world, and let Irving know as much. He would've sat Irving and LeBron down in a room and...
I'm not ready to make any hyperbolic comments until I see this new team play together, but the Cavs did get better today. They're stronger defensively, faster, and younger. I wish they had been able to lure Avery Bradley away from the Clippers, but frankly, Altman worked a few minor miracles...
The funny thing is that the team would still be competitive if they had kept Kyrie. They could've built a team of smart, young defenders (ala Boston) around Love and Irving. They wouldn't be winning titles, but they could've been as good as the Raptors have been the last few years. Another...
After that blowout loss, the team has a negative point differential on the season. I can't understand why Lue is still around. Unless Gilbert is reluctant to pay another coach, it doesn't make sense. Nobody is fixing this team, but Lue is objectively bad at his job.
With the trade deadline just...
Golden State and Houston are his two best bets to win. Still guessing he lands in LA (playing for the Clippers or Lakers) with Paul George. I bet Bill Simmons was right about the GS leak:
Thomas has sucked, but he's completely right when he says the defense was bad long before he got there. When you have old, slow defenders, you aren't going to be a good defensive team no matter what. The Cavs also put no effort in defensively, which only compounds the issue. Also, this:
I think Thomas will improve a bit by the end of the season, but he likely did permanent damage by playing injured last year. Even if Thomas improves, I don't think he'll ever be the player he was. It's become increasingly clear that we got fleeced on the Kyrie trade. The Brooklyn pick probably...
I'm right there with you. This team needs to change its identity to beat Boston and Golden State. They couldn't even outscore San Antonio's D League roster last night. Besides, Crowder hasn't been good defensively in years.
This is the type of trade that the Cavs need. They need to flip the vast majority of the roster for fast, young defenders. Unfortunately, a trade like this doesn't exist in the real world. Getting rid of Lue will help, but not even Popovich could win a title with this roster.
I can't understand why we continue to try to outscore Golden State. They have too many shooters and are too good down the stretch defensively to beat that way, but that won't stop us from trying it yet again.
I guess that's probably the only option we have with this roster, though. No matter...
The Ringer has us selecting Mikal Bridges with Brooklyn's pick. We need an excellent 3-and-D player or four to slot in next to LeBron, Thomas, and Love. Unfortunately, they're still in high demand, and perhaps the least abundant player type around right now. We also have nothing to offer teams...
I used to watch every Buckeye basketball game. At the end of the Matta era, the teams became such an exercise in frustration that I couldn't bear it anymore. I'm still processing my emotions regarding Thad's dismissal, but it's starting to look like it was the right move. We haven't had a win...
LeBron didn't quit for two years to rest his body, either. Oh, sorry, I meant "to play Minor League Baseball."
Then when Ty Lue continues to drive recklessly, nobody can act surprised when the car breaks down. After all, it's 15 years old and has 300,000 miles on it.
Love how we're playing, still not sure LeBron needs to play 41 minutes in a game in December. Somebody needs to take the keys from Ty Lue. He's been drunk since he took over from Blatt.
It helps to have a future HOFer running your bench unit, I guess. The three-point shooting has also returned, which is something we desperately needed.
Glad to see Love getting more than 10 FGA per game. I hope that continues after Thomas comes back.
