Solid return. as well. Field position will be critical against the mighty ducks and at Slappy Valley. I love our guys trying to house picks, as long as they take care of the ball.
I've got to think that we've been vanilla by design with the adjustments mixing in a little french vanilla. That ought to be enough against the first four lambs to slaughter. and it has been. Why put anything on tape to get a sack against Akron? There's more behind it.
As a HS slot receiver, I always loved to block and later on offense in rugby to run into them harder than they'd hit me. That's your opportunity to instill some hesitation in the defense, out physical them, and get in their heads. What EE did is the best way to shut up trash talk. :)
I would only really worry if he shied away from contact. That's not been something we've seen with him. What would be great, though, is if he had a Butkus winner and all-pro to coach him up.
I love Knowles. He takes accountability and heat for his guys (Styles, in this case). Just read some of his presser answers and in response to how he handles criticism he said, his father was a Philly cop. With Knowles and Kelly, we’ve got the right guys in place.
I get and don't necessarily disagree with much of the above. That said, much of defense is seeing what they're doing live and shutting it down from there. If we weren't seeing devastation wrought in the second halves of games, I'd be more concerned. Yes, I'd rather see adjustments made in...
I said he’s an example to the younger kids, that includes special teams play, and that IF they lived up to that example, they’d eventually pass him. The fact that they haven’t yet played up to his example on special teams doesn’t negate that statement.
Not selling him short. He wanted to be here and has put in the work, no doubt. He's certainly an example for the younger guys to follow and I imagine the staff will hold him up as an exemplar. That's the rub, though. He wasn't a 5-star, top-ranked corner. That's who's behind him. If they...
This is great for him and us this year. He should definitely enjoy it and keep grinding. At some point, assuming that they also keep working, the younger guys' talent is going to catch up to and pass him.
My issue was never with him. Great player, great read, great anticipation and reaction, almost a whiff in the tackle, but, as you say, he was able to make the stop anyway. He will (and, I imagine, already has) learn from it. I’m sure Knowles was in him right away.
My issue was simply the...
It was textbook, better than textbook, right up until it wasn't. Maybe if he'd landed the solid hit in the chest that he should've and just not wrapped up or maybe if he hadn't taken the right angle or flashed over to help and saved 6 with what he did. Maybe then I can see a nitpicking charge...
Right, but you're missing the point of exactly my point. He read it perfectly, was in the right place, came up at the right speed, didn't even attempt to wrap and made almost no contact. He almost did miss the tackle (in fact, he did and instead made an ankle tap/arm tackle) and I'd guess that...
I love the guy and I love that he's with us, BUT that tap, potato-potahto, could just as easily be even more glancing or an outright miss and there was nothing but green in front of the runner. Against a better team, that could go for six. I'm sure Knowles spoke with him about it.
I just watched it again and he turned a potential fumble-causing mega-tackle into an ankle tap that just as easily could’ve been a miss. I’m applauding the anticipation, timing, and speed, but the tackle execution sucked.
I understand the theory, but practically speaking, what is Brown’s experience in hostile environments? If we’d seen more from him, both in terms of sample size and production, I’d be more inclined to agree.
All that said… he didn’t even try to wrap up and the hit wasn’t centered. This is the kind of hit that can get you burned just as easily. He was there, the speed was great, but it was not a great tackle.
I don’t think there’s any question about him being the guy next year. No controversy this season. Howard’s the guy we need now, but Sayin’s got to get enough snaps to be ready, if called, and to be able to hit the ground running next season. Day didn’t do McCord any favors by playing Stroud...
