2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

OK, it's Pantoni's time to shine, and thanks for that, he's quite good at it. Forget the name of the person who does alot of the scut work on the visits, but she's arguably more important than Pantoni. Wonder who they get to 'pair' with the recruit on the visit? Am betting that Emeka, and other top receivers pair up with these targets. Betcha that our 5*s pair up.....Just a question, do these already Buckeyes look upon this as a chore, or as a way to help out Buckeye Nation. Volunteer or selected? Just being curious. Go Bucks!

Ohio State Men's Golf (Official Thread)

AArgh! Watched Golf Channel, clicked forward to see if collegiate golf on, but no bueno. Woulda been glued if had known. Anyway, golf is a funny game, and hopefully Wallin can rally. Also the guys on tOSU team need to start shooting at pins and making some putts. Can I assume correctly that all five are counters? toward team score? Go Bucks!

In the 90's the was a Pac-10 network that he called games for, it was very small time. I remember watching a game against UCLA and ASU where ASU had gotten behind big and was attempting a comeback. After they cut the lead to single digits UCLA went on another run and Bill said "ASU has shot their load".
I watched a few terrible games because Walton was on the broadcast. It was the parallels between beautiful basketball and Bob Weir that made me laugh.

SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

Bleacher Report article:

SEC to Discuss Rule Change Requiring CFB Teams to Report Injuries, Commissioner Says

Looking to potentially take a page out of the NFL rulebook, the SEC is considering a rule change that would mandate player availability reports.
Speaking to reporters on Monday prior to the annual SEC meetings, commissioner Greg Sankey said one of the topics that will be discussed this week is the potential implementation of player availability reports during the week of games for things like injuries.
Sankey did note he doesn't expect the league to make a decision on the possible change this week.

The Big Ten tried in 2018 to get the NCAA to consider a weekly injury report in response to the United States Supreme Court's decision in the Murphy v. NCAA case that allowed individual states to legalize sports gambling.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith explained the rationale for the reporting at the time:

"In football, we're going to kill this [idea of] gamesmanship around injuries. ... We don't know if we want to report as many days as the NFL, but clearly on Mondays if somebody is injured from Saturday and you know they're not going to play the following Saturday because they broke their leg, why not just say that?"

We moved to NH just in time to catch most of the 86 Celtics. He and Bird trying to out-pass each other was something I'll never forget. He was also one of my favorite announcers, RIP.

NCAA Football 2025

IT'S IN THE GAME. According to documents CLLCT obtained last week, EA Sports paid Ohio State $99,875.16 for its appearance in EA Sports College Football 25. The Buckeyes were considered one of 13 “Tier 1” schools that received the highest distribution along with Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Utah and Iowa.

Over the weekend, Matt Liberman of CLLCT shared that EA Sports used AP Polls from the past 10 years as the primary variable to rank teams. However, the documents CLLCT obtained did not indicate whether the poll was “the sole barometer.”

Given Ohio State's prominent history in the AP poll – the program ranks No. 1 all-time in AP poll appearances with 982, followed by Michigan (919), Oklahoma (898), Alabama (873) and Notre Dame (873) – it makes sense that the Buckeyes would be a Tier 1 school. It sounds like Ohio State will remain in Tier 1 for the foreseeable future.

OT Josh Fryar (Official Thread)

WHETHER AT TACKLE OR GUARD, JOSH FRYAR SHOOTING FOR HIGHER STANDARD IN SECOND YEAR STARTING

147303_h.jpg

As of now, Josh Fryar is set to start again for Ohio State in 2024.

That much is clear. There’s been no indication of his removal from the starting lineup and – while he had his rough moments in 2023 – there’s a reason Fryar landed first-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and third-team honors from the coaches.

Not as clear is whether he’ll be the team’s right tackle or right guard. It seems likely that it’ll be the former, where he started last year, started the spring game and took the majority of his reps this spring. But right guard is still a possibility.

“We know that Josh can play right tackle and he’s done that before,” Day said after the spring game. “Always want to find the best five. We feel like Josh is one of our best five, if we could figure that part of it out, that’d be great. He has played a little bit of guard but he’s also played tackle.”

Regardless, as he enters his second campaign as a starter, Fryar is trying to build off a year that wasn’t up to his “standard,” find a bigger competitive edge in practice and avoid overthinking down to down.

“I think experience is the biggest key,” Fryar said in April. “I think (left guard Donovan Jackson) can attest to it too, that first year (starting) is kind of rough and then that second year, you get a little bit more (comfortable). Now third year he’s going to have it down pat. But now I feel like I’m having it down pat (also).”
