That still doesn't make it right?

I'm over it, though. Just figured I'd bring up my contrasting views of recruiting tactics. The recruiting scene is what it is.

Virtually all coaches do it--even JT did it--just maybe not to the degree UFM does. And maybe that's why UFM kicks butt and takes names in recruiting.

If a prospect truly wants to no longer be recruited after he commits somewhere then all he has to do is say so.

I agree. But I'm more of a proponent of the idea that it is better to be chased than to chase. As long as it is the recruit initiating (or re-initiating) the contact then i don't frown down on it nearly to the extent I do if same had called them first. I have no exact knowledge on which we do. I guess I'm just worried its the latter.

Last signing day when Urban was asked about this, he said something to the effect of "I'll give a kid a call and ask if he's interested. If he says no, I wish him good luck. If he says he's interested, then we'll continue to recruit him".

I believe this is more or less what goes on. If a kid is interested, of course a coach should pursue him. If a kid really has no interest, the coaches aren't going to waste their time.

A kid has a right to entertain whichever college is offering him a future. It's the single biggest, the most important decision in that kid's life up to that point. Say it again: it's the single biggest, most important decision in that kid's life up to that point. If Coach Meyer starts calling, the kid should think about whether or not he should consider attenting tOSU. For some kids that decision takes 10 second: "thank you coach, but I'm committed elsewhere." For others that might take some time more time. It's ok. It's big boy football for the coaches, and the kids need to take the decision very, very seriously.

Sorry, but schools looking to win national championships can't just wait on a recruit to contact them. Coaches have to be a lot more pro active, especially with kids committing earlier. We can never expect to beat the big boy out of conference teams without an aggressive recruiting coaching staff. We're not in the mac or mountain west. We should be putting out the best product on the field and if we're not aggressive, another school will be and take that recruit. This is the recruiting age that we're in now

Am I the only one that's a little bit flustered by the fact we are continually calling committed recruits?

In a perfect world, once a kid committed, his phone would stop ringing. That isn't realistic. You think scUM, MSU, PedSU and the rest of the BIG teams aren't still calling our commits? Nothing would make Hoke or Dantonio happier that flipping one of our guys to them. Not gentlemanly, but that's how it's done in college football today.

You play the game to WIN!

I know a number of players and the "half dislike him" is BS. The ones who dislike him are the ones who think he is too tough on them. JT made them all feel safe and wanted. UFM lets you know where you stand and he wants you to feel like your job might be gone tomorrow. Soft players hate him.

Watch the end of Neb and watch Boren, Fragel, and others all hug him and tell me they hate him! Those are the warriors, they love him. Ty Williams hated him, nuff said.

Exactly

If we're getting into what's "disrespectful", or moral/etc. (i.e. ignoring the goal of winning), the recruit's perspective needs to be the focus here, not the perspective of the coaches. If the new school turns out to be a better fit in the recruits eyes, shame on the previous coach for supposedly wanting to hide that better choice from the recruit.
