NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

We see this time and time again with where a QB ends up being a determining factor many times in their careers.

Does anyone really think TB landing in Cleveland as a draft pick has the same outcome as landing in NE?

Yep Brady woulda been outta the league in a couple years if he got drafted by the Browns. Same rings true for Purdy. But I think Purdy is a worse case than Brady in this scenario

Brady would have probably been out of the League without ever playing a down. Like so many 5-6th round QBs

Brady was a way more talented QB than Purdy is. Brady won some super bowls with meh supporting casts on offense. Purdy pretty much succeeds because of his stacked supporting cast. Like I said put Purdy on some mid team and he’s not good.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying as a 5 or 6th round QB you need two things. Talent and Opportunity. In many situations Brady doesn't get the opportunity. And if he doesn't get a chance to show he's any good unless the team he was saw something in him. Chances are a few years down the road another 5-6 th gets drafted and how many teams go out on a limb to sign him having never seen anything besides some late preseason games playing against scrubs.

Being a 5th or 6th round flyer severely limits your opportunities vs a 1st or 2nd round pick

I know Brady was lucky for the opportunity. I don’t agree with any other Brady/Purdy comparison though. Brady is the way better QB overall. His first Super Bowl especially he had a pretty average supporting cast on offense. Purdy stepped into a loaded fucking machine. Most NFL QBs probably would look pretty good with this 49ers team. The 49ers could easily win without Purdy. Purdy not so much without the 49ers. The praise he gets just gets annoying

Yeah Brady was a high upside low floor pick late round pick while Purdy was a high floor low upside late round pick. Both exist. But the later tends to be a late round pick because they have some very real limitations on there physical attributes. While the former more often than not fails to pick up the mental game/accuracy or some form there of.

The 49ers could probably be in the same spot with most QBs who are currently on rosters. Backups included. McCaffery and that OL are the team.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. But the top 40 or SO QBs in the NFL yes. Feels like they'd be the same with Minschew as Purdy.

Eh I'll revise that. QB's with decent accuracy and no tendency to Zac Wilson and to a lesser extent Joe Flacco yolo ball it on occasion out there
