WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

He has made Coach Hazell look like a tremendous coach. Kind of like Hawk, Carpenter, and Shlegel make Coach Fikell look real good this year.

Coach Hazell - Yeah Teddy take it to the house...Teddy, okay coach

Coach Fickell - AJ dominate the game...AJ, okay coach

Let your players make plays!!

You gotta give credit to Coach Hazell for coming up with the 2-returner formation. If it's been done before I don't recall seeing it. Not only does it mean you can't punt away from the returner without going out of bounds, but there's a blocker ready to throw that first block. That's usually all Teddy needs and he's gone.

Ginn: does he play defense next year?...

I personally tend to think not but the coaches may be tempted. Youboty will be great at one spot but the other is uncertain. EJ is the logical choice but he's been a bit inconsistent. TG would give us two lockdown corners which would be hard to beat. No doubt he will play on offense and return punts.

My guess would be no, he doesn't play defense.
An offensive weapon like this only comes along every generation and to put him on the other side of the ball will increase the chances to be injured and could cause him to be less effective on offense because of fatigue.
I think O'neil plays on defense before they feel a need to put Ginn over there to help out.
I'd like to see Ginn used even more out of the tail back spot. JT has to get this kid as many touches as possible.

Which game did Teddy first start returning punts? Even though he tied the D1A mark, I don't know that he even gets on the list for return averages, etc because he has to be a return specialist in more than 75% of the teams' games. I think the minimum cut-off is at 1.2 returns per game.
He returned kicks against Wisconsin. I didn't get to see the NW game (stupid TV coverage and then our school internet died for the evening, it was awful). So that would mean he returned kicks in 7 out of 12, soon to be 13.

I want to mention one play...Ryan Hamby. His catch and carry in the redzone was big. He hasn't seen the ball that much lately it seems...he had some motion problems in the game...but when he got the ball he just ran over scUM. I love it. He played a great game...lots of good blocking. This game wasn't just Ginn and Smith...it was everybody!

Thing is, his 80 yard punt return, while absolutely outstanding, may not have been his best punt return of the day.

He went for 25 on one where he almost did a freakin hand stand to stay on his feet early in the return.

The speed is incredible with Ginn, but the reason there may be a Heisman in his future is the instinct and agility and balance. He can make anyone miss. You need 3 guys to bring Ginn down.

He will get a chance at D if for no other reason that he wants it and has earned it. I agree it is most likely nickel and dime, but a lot could depend on how the competition shakes out. With Gonzo in the mix and Holmes looking to return its not like we need him at WR every down either.

We lose Fox and Jacobs but have a bunch of kids entering the mix next year inlcuding Jamario and Sirjo Welch who has been lights out on special teams this year. I konw the recruiting ratings only count for so much, but even without Ginn we willl have 7 kids in the defensive backfield next season who were rated either 4 or 5 stars.

BTW - anybody seen Skeeter lately? Talk about your disappoinment.

I think he plays both. Kid was this dangerous in high school too and he still played CB full time if I am not mistaken. Everything I have read is that he is shutdown beyond belief as a CB. With an offseason to study things, his head shouldn't be swimming as much. He has had sooooo much to learn already.

With a month to work on it, it would not surprise me to see him in as a nickel or dime back in the bowl game in fact. Just to see how he handles it and give him a taste. He will not unseat Fox or Youtoby for a starting position, but no reason not to have him as nickel or dime.
