WR Noah Brown (Houston Texans)

JERRY JONES: NOAH BROWN WILL MAKE 53-MAN ROSTER

The Cowboys drafted Brown in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. They did so at the behest of former teammate Ezekiel Elliot, who campaigned with the front office.

Brown didn't dominate preseason, but he did periodically shine in games and practices—especially for a seventh round pick.

The most scrutinized position on the Dallas Cowboys’ 2018 roster heading into training camp is wide receiver. Following the release of Dez Bryant, everyone is talking about the nearly dozen receivers in Dallas, but rarely does that discussion include second-year pro Noah Brown.

Brown is one of only three receivers returning from Dallas’ 2017 active roster along with Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams, but all the chatter is mostly regarding free agent signee Allen Hurns and third-round pick Michael Gallup. And the “deeper” discussions include lesser-known free agent signee Deonte Thompson, second-year roster hopeful Lance Lenoir and sixth-round pick Cedrick Wilson.

So where are we with Brown as he heads into his second training camp with seemingly a longer shot to make the roster than he did as a seventh-round pick in his rookie campaign a year ago? Well, he still looks like Bryant and blocks better than arguably all the Cowboys’ receivers with the only possible exception of Williams.

The whole “looks like Bryant” thing is a little eerie: Brown’s measurable in the height, weight and 40-yard dash categories are identical to Bryant’s. Brown is a better blocker and his fundamental route running is also better, except for the slant and maybe the dig. The difference – at least thus far – is sheer explosiveness........

Unfortunately he ended the game bobbling the desperation dump off pass, batting it up into the air, which Jacksonville intercepted and returned for a walk off TD.

Can’t really blame Noah because he was off balance trying to make a shoestring grab, but that was a rough way to lose.
