WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

On top of how many already?

That's my point... the last snap he played was what, Iowa?

That's what, 5 weeks ago?

An additional 4 weeks will not cure him of whatever the problem is. Especially after missing arguably the single most important game of the season and his career.

We'll see... I hope he plays, because he's a difference maker - or at least he was, last year. I hope he plays like no receiver has ever played in the history of the NCAA. I hope every catch he makes is for a touchdown. I think the kid deserves it.

Does he deserve more than MHJ or EE... I'm not sure.

But... what my head keeps coming back to is this: if he wasn't ready last week, with EVERYTHING on the line, after 5+ weeks of rest, he's likely not going to be ready after an additional 4 weeks. Unless what's going on with him isn't just a "tweaked" (or whatever Day called it) hamstring.
It's a hammy they linger it's really easy to retweak.

Like over and over again if you don't properly rest it. As shown by Iowa and Toledo. Give him another 2 weeks and then try it out. From what I saw of him this year he'll try to go. He might retweak it again in practice and be done. But I don't think he's just going to stand around on the sideline and not give it a go.

the flip side of it is if there's any chance you can't play or they can't win even with him.

then playing in that game is mostly pointless from a top 20 pick standpoint.

not putting that on Jaxon's heart at all. strictly talking hypotheticals.

Dropping from 10 to 20 is a lot of millions on the table. Garret was 10 last year, so doable. On the other hand showing that you can’t heal up in 9 weeks of no contact is not a good look.

Have you ever been around a high caliber athlete recovering from a hammy or are you guessing?

Serious question.

Exactly this. I had a close defender last spring dealing with a hammy until we sat him for an extended period. The only way to get through it is to rest and rebuild. He’s probably at the point where he’s starting to go on it again… and trust it. Aside from him deciding to opt out to due to health, I think that he plays if he’s healthy enough.

Hammy issues are like bicep issues in the way that they contract and ball up. Not a whole lot of other muscles need to fully contract and extend just for everyday use, let alone performance and weight lifting. Pull a chest muscle? Not really an issue outside the weight room. Same for quad, lats, etc. The hamstring is so sensitive I’ve seen pretty muscular spec ops guys mess it up on a curl machine.

And once you just "tweak" it, you dont trust it until there is no pain whatsoever. It freaks you out beyond the pain and I imagine it's a lot moreso when you have millions in your future.
