TE Gee Scott Jr. (Official Thread)

Just sayin': The second or third guy picked in the draft doesn't do all that bad, i.e.

Burrow = $36.0M
Young = $34.6M
Okudah = $33.5M

The longer you stay, the more game film they have to pick your game a part. If he grades out as one of the top 3 QB's and is projected to go anywhere inside the top 15 he's gotta bolt.

Sure, you can argue that the difference between 35 mil (top pick) and 15 mil (middle of 1st rd pick) is huge, but nothing is guarenteed the next year and staying in school another year and playing for free sucks too. I don't mind if he falls a bit and ends up with a better organization so he does't end up in a situations like Haskins is in with Washington.

You arent wrong but the playing for free might be in mid change also with likeness rights and that thing coming about. Guaranteed that people of his caliber will be making money while in college going forward. Everyone probably wont but Heisman contenders will be at the cash register.

Sure, I agree. It's coming. But will it be enough to entice 19-20 yr olds to stay an extra year on a regular basis when they are projected in the top half of the 1st rd. I don't think so.

Btw, that does not look like a typical freshman body. Gee is going to be a beast.

Has been working with the TE’s. I think he could be a stud there.
Agreed, but that'll be another year to sit...
But I do agree that if he could pack on some pounds, and learn blocking he could be a crazy good mismatch. And more in the mold of an offensive weapon like a Ruckert

We don't use the TE so why? Unless we are going to pretend he is a TE like we did Ted Ginn for 1 play in 2006?

Gee is not a TE and my fear is he will transfer after the spring as a result of this. I hope not because I think he's one of our best at WR let alone anywhere else.

Maybe he wants to make the move? He has always been a bigger WR at 6'3" 220. As to if he is one of our best WR, and not at all to disparage Scott and his abilities, which are outstanding, he's clearly not been ahead of Olave, Wilson, Williams, Smith-Njigba, or Fleming, and we haven't even seen what Harrison Jr or Egbuka can do yet.

Again, maybe Scott wants to bulk up a bit and be a mismatch pass catching TE (admittedly not Ohio State's bread and butter). But, with the WR room as stacked as it is, something's gotta give and we are all just going to have to accept it. Same for the QB room.

I wouldn't read toooooo much into it.

1. Sounds like it was his idea - he brought it up to the staff.
2. He is doing it in order to see the field more...WR = stacked, TE = not so stacked.
3. Knows it will only help his NFL stock to get this experience
4. This could be for only some sub looks and a one year process.
5. I will never complain with getting your best players on the field.
6. This is not as big a transition as it sounds like given the emphasis on WR blocking the staff has always had.

Is it really so hard to believe that the success the TE’s had in the Sugar Bowl may have been noticed by the authors of that success?

I understand the “I’ll believe it when I see it” mentality, but you’ve seen it. Yes, it was only in one game, but the guys who came up with that game plan saw it too.

Gee Scott has the toughness and work ethic to make this work, one way or the other. I expect great things from him.
