Ohio State's Gee Scott respectfully fires back at Twitter fan
Think wide receiver Gee Scott has any regrets about his decision to sign with Ohio State? National Signing Day in February will be low stress for the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver after he signed early with the Buckeyes.
Scott had no issues expressing that on the eve of National Signing Day when an anonymous Twitter user attacked a religion-based post.
Scott had no issue firing back, respectfully.
Similar to future teammate Julian Fleming, who proudly defended the Buckeyes class over the summer, Scott is all in on the future of the Ohio State offense with Justin Fields at quarterback and Ryan Day as head coach.
Five-stars Fleming and Jaxon Smith-Njigba and four-stars Gee Scott Jr. and Mookie Cooper make an enticing Scarlet and Gray receiving corps of the future, with all four players ranked inside the top 16 nationally.
But how much they contribute in the present and become a part of the Ohio State rotation as freshmen will depend on how they develop over the next several months.
“With all of these guys, there's so much potential, just like anywhere in college,” wide receivers coach Brian Hartline said of the freshmen receivers in December. “It's all about between the ears. How can you handle adversity? How fast you learn the offense? So that's all an unknown.”
Scott ranks as a 247Sports Composite four-star recruit out of Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic, and is the No. 2 overall prospect from his state.
“One of the most technically sound receivers in his class,” writes national recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman. “Polished route runner, sure-handed. Best in mid-range routes, but can take the top off. Difficult to press. Superb body control and ability to adjust to throws. Doesn't have elite top-end speed, but can still stretch the field. Very good run blocker and enjoys that aspect of the position. High football IQ. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter and as a second day NFL draft pick.”

High character, highlights part of Gee Scott package for Ohio State
It isn’t the Gee Scott Jr. highlight-reel plays, of which there are an abundance.
It isn’t, in fact, any singular moment on the football field conjuring a coach’s memory of the Ohio State freshman wideout.
No, Dom Daste — Scott’s former coach at Eastside Catholic High School — points to the young man Scott already has become as maybe the veteran coach’s favorite memory of his transcendent pupil.
“There’s some moments, not just plays because he’s had a bunch of those, but how he treats other people,” Daste told Lettermen Row. “And it’s how he goes out of his way to make sure the people around him are involved in everything, whether it’s competing or in the classroom. He has a huge personality, a lot of character about him.
“For example, we have a program at our school, and he is probably the most popular person among our options kids, those who face challenges, and he just hangs out with them; he’s their biggest friend. He’s our friend, not because he’s a football player. That’s what I’m most proud of him for. It just kind of restores your faith in young people a little bit.”
This story merely is one in a growing litany revealing the character of Scott — and his family. He’s befriended a homeless man in his suburban Seattle home and maintained that relationship.
“We still keep in touch,” Scott told reporters at Ohio State this week. “He’s great. Not only is it a great feeling for me, but to see how just a simple act … I didn’t give him money; I didn’t give him a fortune, but just to see how a simple act [of kindness] can encourage them to maybe motivate them to want to change their life.
“I encourage people around the world to do the same sort of thing. You never know what kind of influence you have on people, especially a world class athlete and the touch they can have on youth and stuff like that.”

Ohio State Freshman Receiver Gee Scott: ‘I just wanted to be here’
There are a number of reasons why a high school football recruit would want to come to Ohio State. It’s one of the top football programs in the nation, the facilities are never finished improving, there is a family atmosphere with the coaching staff, the academics and connections will outlast football, and it’s one of the few places that has gotten very, very good at getting the most out of their players.
Any one of those reasons is enough for some players, but when you combine them all, it’s not a surprise that Ohio State can go all the way to Washington to sign somebody like freshman receiver Gee Scott.
Ohio State doesn’t generally recruit the state of Washington, so if the Buckeyes are going to utilize resources to go all the way out to the west coast, the interest better be mutual, and the player better be special.
Nothing the Ohio State coaches saw during Scott’s recruitment had them thinking they were wasting their time.
And nothing Gee Scott saw on his very first visit to Ohio State could convince him that Columbus wasn’t the place for him.
“There was just something about here. The first time I came here I was blown away,” Scott said. “I wanted to be here. I couldn’t wait to put the uniform on. I remember talking to Coach Alford. ‘Coach, this is where I want to be. I don’t want to go anywhere else.’ He said, ‘If you go home and you let this Ohio State high go down and in a couple of days you feel the same way, we’re going to make this work.’ I did. I felt great about it. I took another visit out here and I knew this was it. I didn’t take an official visit anywhere else.”
Over the last few years when players talk about why they chose Ohio State, the topic of Real Life Wednesdays comes up. This is the program instituted by former OSU head coach Urban Meyer because he wanted his players to be better prepared for life after Ohio State.
Ohio State gets labeled a ‘football factory’ every spring during the NFL Draft, but the program is also concerned about life off the field and after football. Both of those aspects of OSU were a draw for Scott.
“I just wanted to be here. That was 50 percent of it. The other 50 percent is just everything that goes into the program. It’s not just one thing,” he said.
“Obviously football is a lot of the reason I came here. But at the same time this football thing is maybe only going to go until I’m 30. I’ve got a whole life to live. I know that the people here will push me to be a better person, too. If I don’t go to the NFL, if I grew as a person, I can be glad with that.”

Unfortunate that cfbquotes' Twitter is involved, a known parody account that attributes fake quotes to players and coaches.
People have been trying to get that account banned for years.
