You kids stay off my lawn!
A salute to all my fellow veterans here on BP.

This year is a sad one for me. My brother in law, Ken Rex, passed on this August. In 1952, Ken sailed on the destroyer Herbert J. Thompson, firing counter battery missions off the North Korean coast. For more than 30 years we would gather somewhere and tip back a bit of Woodford Reserve or Glenmorangi to celebrate. We made more than 20 trips to DC, stopping first at The Wall to honor my service, and then the Korean Memorial to honor his.

Taps will have a different sound to me tomorrow. Farewell Ken, Calm seas and following winds. Sail on.

From an Airman to a Sailor, my deepest condolences and respect. His time on this Earth made us all safer. Thank you to your family.

My wife and I both have served in the Air Force with collectively decades of service. I have multiple tours to the “sandbox” flying the MC-130E/H and C-37A, but to be honest your brother-in-law fought wars that we talked about in Afghanistan. Those battles are legendary footprints we always tried to fit into, hoping to make the previous generation of warfighters proud. Fair winds and calm seas.

Happy Veterans Day to everyone that has served or has family that have served. It’s no easy feat watching loved ones go into harms way and trying to keep the fort down, bills paid, kids focused, emotions in control, and your daily life in tact.
