    MetalBuck89 What now?

This whole thing has gone so far off the rails that I can't see how the whole truth is ever going to come out. And even if it does, who's going to know it or believe it? The "investigation" is already over, and yet little things seem to be appearing that dispute the findings. The media and all the OSU/Urban haters have already played judge and jury with only half the facts. So any truth that doesn't match their original story line will either be ignored or spun to maintain their slant. This is F'ed up!

If it’s a university issued phone, and I have to guess that’s the case, I would also guess that it is configured via device images that have software and IT and compliance policies pre-configured... and managed with an EMM suite. The University has to manage a fleet of devices, between phones, desktops, laptops and portables. The only way to do that effectively is with some kind of EMM tool. Hell, I even use Cisco’s Meraki EMM to manage devices in our home — largely because I was tired of starting from scratch every time a new device was added. For IOS devices I am able to create polices with preconfigured settings to push to the devices I manage. This is the kind of setting that an IT and compliance team would work through together to specify and lock into the device in a way that the end user would not be able to modify.

Here's what I found interesting from that article (with my emphasis added):

So basically, Urban was suspended not for covering up domestic violence (media), not for failing to report to compliance (report), but for creating "needless controversy" by "botching" the answer to a question at Big Ten media day. Sounds about right.

Right. This is absurd to anyone that has spent any amount of time listening to Urban Meyer speak at press conferences over the years. He's a football coach... he wants to talk about punt coverage, not coaches' personal lives or back office politics. He has been a fairly terrible conversationalist regarding just about anything that isn't related to psych, motivation, or football for his entire coaching career.

Basically, if OSU trustees wanted more Mack Brown and a little less Nick Saban, they hired the wrong fucking guy.

I read it as he was suspended for being dishonest and not properly managing his staff to such a degree that it cost the university several hundred thousand dollars and a huge public black eye. The important take away is that they felt they could have fired him if they wanted to but chose not to. He survived by the grace of Drake and the trustees. Urban should have recognized that and not been such a jackass at the press conference.

You can "read" it however you want, but the staff member's words were pretty clear: Not a word about dishonesty or mismanagement or cost to the university.

You have very bad eyes...or may be your avatar should read “wrong glasses”...or maybe you are just too negative.

I consider it a colossal fuck up that he was not able to “no comment-that’s a personal matter between those people and that family“ that question when asked. Based upon what I think I know about the situation, I think this truly is the most egregious error although if he knew about other shenanigans, then he probably should have cut bait a while ago.

That said, I suspect if he had answered as above, most of this story would have gone in a different direction and wouldn’t have cost Ohio state as much to look into nor the perceived black eye. I still don’t know how he wasn’t prepared to answer with something similar to the above.

You're right. I had the quote that BB73 posted on the ZS thread in mind. That being said, one faculty member out of twenty contacted defending the decision doesn't speak to widespread support for or against it. Just that they don't care to comment on it. And whatever people want to say publicly, I think it is readily apparent that UM was suspended for nepotism, for keeping Earl's toxic grandson on staff until his behavior blew up in the university's face.

    This.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, right? And there's no way to anticipate the level of fall out, but just as a matter of good practice, "No comment, I'm not prepared to discuss these details, and I don't want to misspeak" is always an appropriate response. Fuck, I don't care if the question is, "do you think it's going to rain today?" It should be made clear to everyone who has a mic in front of them that it is not only an acceptable response, but in many cases preferred.

The problem isn't his statements and trying to point out the mediots aren't reporting the actual findings of the committee.

The problem is I think he's trying to convince the morons out in cyberspace and fans of opposing teams. That's never going to happen and it doesn't matter if he was fully exonerated or not.

Just put on the cape and lay waste to everyone in 3 weeks coach. Fuck 'em all.
