Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Did I miss the part where Urban had any past relationship with Chris Doyle? How was/is Doyle a “buddy” of his?

"I've known Chris for close to 20 years. Our relationship goes back to when I was at Utah, and he was the No. 1 strength coach. He was doing sports performance before sports performance became a high priority in college sports. I've known him. I've studied him. We've had a relationship. I vetted him thoroughly, along with our general manager [Trent Baalke] and owner [Shad Khan]. Feel great about the hire, about his expertise at that position. So we vetted him thoroughly.
I feel like the statement makes it worse. A quick google search of “Chris Doyle Iowa” should bring up enough red flags on the search results alone without even clicking on anything to preclude the hire. But he vetted it “thoroughly” and felt “great” about it.

It’s hard to see that sitting well with his African American players, but maybe Meyer can deal with it through addressing the players about it. That’s one thing he seems to be fairly good at. Although from the beginning, the difference between dealing with 18-year-olds and 25-35 year-old millionaires has been an obvious stumbling block for him along with every other college coach who transitions to the NFL.

There was not only the things that came to a head with his firing from Iowa last June, but 10 years ago Iowa had 13 players hospitalized with rhabdomyolosis. I was surprised at the time that their strength coach wasn’t fired after that. Link

What a disgusting, largely fact-free orgy of character assassination and self-indulgence by LaCanfora.

Agreed. Has to be a backstory.

Wonder how Urban is going to react to having a QB who won't choke someone over checkers.
I mean it's not like there's not a certain OSU QB that has more competitive spirit(and just as much talent as Lawrence) than all QBs put together...

“Make no mistake about it, Urban Meyer took this job in Jacksonville largely because of Trevor Lawrence,” Fowler said. “I spoke to an exec this weekend who said Meyer, if the Jacksonville Jaguars were picking second, he might be coaching the University of Texas right now making $10-12 million a year. He has coveted Lawrence for the last few years dating back to watching him at Clemson in the playoff two years ago.”
