QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

This seems to be a no brainer.

Spend a year developing under a HS coach and working at McDonald's part time.

Spend a year developing with some of the best in the business while making 7 figures.

I think the one thing that would make it work best for the team would be for he and Day to clearly state that this will be a redshirt year.
Fifth year eligibility should not be an issue and his chances of serious playing time are incredibly small (we have two very talented QBs who have played their senior year of HS and also spent a year developing in the QB room at OSU).

And if it does happen it would make Ryan Day the all time closer in CFB recruiting history with his last two recruits in the 2021 class being the highest rated offensive and defensive players ever recruited by OSU.

This isn’t the same HS football scene as in decades past. And Ewers isn’t from a school(or family) where he’d be working at McDonalds part time. The only difference between Ewers staying at home and enrolling early at OSU, is he’ll get paid at OSU. I can assure you that he has private QB coaches in TX and probably a personal trainer. And a mom who I’m sure knows what to make for him that isn’t fast food every night.

I also do hope that they have clear communication with Quinn that this is a RS year to develop.

I don't really understand how you can just "forgo" high school now but that's ok. 8D
Have to imagine that QB room is going to be a pretty awkward place this fall, especially when you factor in Ewers presumably making the most NIL money.

When trying to figure out the QB succession plan moving forward, I think the very thing that brought him in early might be the wildcard in who stays and for how long. NIL money.

You could see NIL agreements be a deterrent, if not an absolute barrier, to transfers. What if an endorsement deal stipulates you have to be the QB of school x for all 3 years to get paid? If you leave is it a breach of contract?

Like everything else with NIL, no one knows and it will be interesting to see what happens.

To me, the trick was always going to be just get him on campus. You never know what can happen in a full recruiting year with someone like him who literally every team in the country would happily take. And then if Stroud or McCord has a huge year then you have more complications. Now they've done that...

Hadn't thought of this as much lately, but it is very relevant with Singletary decommitting.

Still don't love it because I'm very high on Stroud and think McCord showed a lot of promise, so was hoping there would be more space in-between them on the roster. But it's not shocking after the rumors started.

Would hope this would open Quinn to staying more than 3 years, especially if this ends up being a RS year, but probably not. In that case, hopefully Stroud starts, has 2 amazing years, and then McCord and Ewers fight it out for '23.

Get the popcorn ready, this will be entertaining to say the least...most *'s from a recruiting prospective to ever be in our QB room. On one hand, now we don't have to worry about him decommitting...on the other, I see the potential transfer concerns down the line. However, I would hope (and think) that Quinn stays put at least one year presuming he doesn't get the starting job this year. Interesting times we live in, but glad to see him in Columbus.
