QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

Ewers had 3 TD's, 2 INT's and around 350 yards passing. His arm talent is obvious. He's a legit 6'3". He can throw the ball 40-50 yards with his momentum going the other direction. He's not Justin Fields or Braxton Miller as far as mobility but he's a legit run threat. Southlake only had about 50 yards rushing as a team. I would guess Ewers probably had close to half of that, even including sacks. Ewers seems somewhat uncomfortable in the pocket as he was under intense pressure. With no run threat, Westlake could pin their ears back and go after Ewers. Ewers hit several deep balls but missed some throws as well - A forth down screen pass is probably the one I'm sure he'd most like to have back.

Southlake was completely outmanned, especially on defense. This wasn't much of a contest shortly after halftime. You could probably argue the Westlake QB looked as good or better than Ewers. However, Ewers was facing a far superior defense. I can see how Ewers detractors could say he's overrated. He didn't particularly look like the best high school player in the country tonight, but it wasn't a fair fight. Ewers getting this team to this point was a pretty impressive feat...and he's got another year to get better. I hope Ewer's commitment sticks but I'm a bit skeptical he's a generational QB. We'll be fine if he has second thoughts. But don't get me wrong, he would look great in scarlet and gray.

I think it's funny how after the Texas State finals and after seeing that OSU was going to retain Day and Dennis; UT fans are cooling on Ewers some. On a few of the message boards I saw they're now higher on Maalik Murphy(CA), Cade Klubnik(TX), and Conner Weigman(TX). Apparently Ewers isn't mobile enough for their new offense(which they haven't even seen yet, and Sark didn't have a mobile QB this season with Jones, but ok)...

Murphy is rated as the No. 30 overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback, trailing just Ewers in that regard. Despite ultimately failing to land Ewers, gaining the pledge of Murphy (who is an extremely talented player in his own right) is a big momentum boost for Sarkisian as he heads into his first season as the head coach at Texas.

Of course, the big deal here for Ohio State fans is that they can ease their worries, knowing that Texas has a new quarterback in its class and that it's unlikely Ewers is going anywhere.
