“It’s a lot about Ohio State that I like,” Sanchez told 247Sports this week. “Coach (Perry) Eliano the safety coach, coach (Tim) Walton the secondary coach, coach (Ryan) Day and just the fanbase. Loving people, they’re going to welcome you. They want you. Coach Day ever since I’ve been there, I’ve been there three or four times. It felt like home all the times I went. The relationship I have with Coach Walton is different from all the coaches. We talk about football, we talk about life, there are certain things other coaches don’t talk about. I can see myself in that fit and see myself under coach Walton and coach Walton getting me to the next level.”

“An Ohio State cornerback, he’s good at everything,” Sanchez told reporters after the camp. “You can press, play off, that’s what they like to do. If you can do all of that and be great at it, you’ve got a chance to be on that cornerback wall and you’ve got a chance to be DBU here. There’s not that many schools where you can call it DBU, but Ohio State’s probably the No. 1 school. Just look at the guys in the league. It speaks for itself.”

Aside from immense talent, he has the "gets it" factor. Often times we are recruiting a guy and while very talented, they don't seem to be a fit into our culture. Sanchez is not that type of kid, he would fit in perfectly with his mindset and personality, which is hard to find frankly with the OOS southern recruits. Hope he becomes the next Texan turned Buckeye great, the recent list is growing (Barrett, Dobbins, Okudah, Browning, G Wilson, JSN, hopefully D Jackson, Abor and Peoples soon enough).

Plus he got to see first hand that Day/Knowles are not afraid to play true freshmen in crunch time. You cannot buy that type of information. Sure, you can hear it, but to see it, wow. Additionally, not only freshman CB, S, but WRs and OL as well. And special teams. These guys have probably never sat the bench anywhere, so they're used to 'doing', rather than sitting and learning. There's got to be an element of both in the college ranks, and am sure they've been cautioned to expect it, but to actually get their cleats and unis dirty is a very good thing.

great point, Trevi. Has (or has not) history shown that Texas HS kids can usually move their class classifications forward? Thought there was a WR or two that did it, and of course Evers moved it forward to commit to tOSU and collect his $1 million NIL. Just asking. He doesn't really have anything more to prove at the HS level.

I don't know if they can reclassify, but they can graduate early and skip their senior season as Ewers did (maybe that is the same as reclassifying, not sure if there is a technical distinction). Of course I would be glad to have Sanchez come in early if he commits here and moving up a year would be his decision if feasible (especially just so he doesn't flip), but I think we will be in good shape at CB if he stays in the '25 class with Davison, Hancock, Mathews, CSH, West and Lockhart. Either way, I love getting a commitment at the AA game, hope it goes down as we suspect.

Devin Sanchez
has playing cornerback, and especially because Ohio State is one of the frontrunners in his recruitment, he’s one inch shorter than the best receiver in college football –
Marvin Harrison Jr.
, a physical specimen who has the size to dominate cornerbacks.


Sanchez also plays really well, turns so smoothly, has great footwork and clearly great length. He is a super competitive player who doesn’t back down to any receiver.

Alabama and Texas A&M are the other top teams.
