ttun basketball (Juwan out, Dusty May in)

I read a UM fan saying Franz will be a 1st round pick next year. We shall see about that.
heck, even evan daniels labels him a "german star." over 67 games last year, he averaged all of 5.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.09 blocks in 13 minutes. you'd think a "star" would average more than 13 minutes. again, as i stated before, alba berlin isn't small potatoes, but i see lots of people inflating his ability. he should be a good shooter for ttun, which they sorely need, yet i'm not seeing a nik stauskas here.

ttun picks up another nazi: mo wagner's brother franz. chose ttun over pro ball in germany. small forward. will play this season.

skunkbears are ecstatic, but i'm thinking that they're inflating his ability and his impact. of the 15 or so players who got meaningful minutes during last year's eurocup (24 games), all but one player averaged more minutes and more points. franz averaged 2.4 points in 9.5 minutes. he appears to be a solid shooter (about 40%), but there is not much else he does. average or below-average athleticism. not a rebounder. probably a questionable defender. while alba berlin plays top competition, i'm not seeing a player who will come in and make a big impact like the fans up there are assuming. they do need shooting, though, which wagner should offer.
I would say they needed more than shooting. They needed some bodies after losing Iggy, Poole, and Matthews all at once, and having only one guy coming in to replace them.

well, i didn't say that shooting is all they need.

what i think they'll need more than anything is what they won't have: yaklich's defensive coaching. it would be one thing if juwanna had a team full of veterans whom yaklich had already molded, but this is not the case. they're breaking in a lot of untested players. simpson and teske are very good defenders; however, when i look at bajema, franz, livers, castleton, etc., i'm not seeing a bunch of lockdown guys.

fans up there are assuming that beilein's offensive development and yaklich's defensive development will continue under juwanna. that is a massive assumption. there was no coaching tandem better at developing players on both sides of the court than those two. beilein and yaklich were as good as it gets. good luck expecting continuity.

but, hey, at least they got their m*ch*gan man. history has shown that hiring a m*ch*gan man guarantees a smooth transition.

Ttun gets ranked ahead of the Bucks after a hot start and winning some preseason tourney in the Bahamas.

Proceed to get waxed by Louisville next game stateside, while the Bucks go on the road and boatrace their top ranked ACC opponent at UNC. Oh, and that UNC is the team they were excited about beating by 9 on a neutral court. Bucks do it by 20 at their place. Back down you go, weasels.

I’m laughing.
