Tony Reed: Has Buckeye Ties

Warren G. Harding’s Tony Reed is a strong force in the middle. Reed who lined up against some of the most talented players on a weekly basis was still able to be one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the Steel Valley Conference. Standing at 6’1 and weighing in at 285 lbs., he is already a beast in the weight room. Recently he put up 21 repetitions at 225 lbs. on the bench press, and posted a solid 505 lb. squat. Numbers even NFL scouts would surely take notice of. Reed who has been starting since his freshman year is gaining the experience necessary to be able to carry a polished game on to the division one level.

Although Reed’s recruitment could come down to a traditional battle between Ohio State and Michigan, Virginia has thrown their name in the mix by taking notice of him very early on.

“Virginia has been showing a lot of interest. They have been showing the most interest out of all the colleges. I do not have any favorites. Virginia is just the school that is showing the most interest right now,” said Reed.

Reed is also receiving interest from Michigan. It has been said that Reed is a Michigan fan, and this is what he had to say about his standing with the Wolverines.

“One side of my family is from Michigan. For Christmas they bought me all this Michigan stuff, so I gotta wear it when I go up to some family members houses. One side of my family likes Michigan and one side likes Ohio State. It is just funny.”

So how much interest has Ohio State been showing Reed?

“I have not gotten a letter from Ohio State yet,” said Reed. “Sooner or later I just assume it is going to come through. I’m not upset about it though. I have a lot of respect for Ohio State. Even if they don’t send me a letter for the rest of my high school career, I will still have a lot of respect for them.”

Although Reed is high on Michigan he wants there to be no misconceptions on how he generally feels about Ohio State.

“The most thing that people get the wrong impression about is that I am not an Ohio State fan, and that I am dissing Ohio State. It’s not like that. If Ohio State sent me anything, like an invitation to a junior day; I would be there with the quickness. Because you know, my cousin Korey Stringer played at Ohio State and just coming from what he taught me about them… I already have had a lot of respect for Ohio State. I don’t want to make it seem like I just want to go out of state, but Michigan is sending me mail, so it looks like I am a lot more interested in Michigan right now.”

Reed claimed no written offers at this time, but that is sure to change in the near future, as he just recently started sending out his tapes to colleges. He also intends on making a huge impression to college coaches on the summer camp tour planning stops at Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Cincinnati. It will go long way in the mind of the coaches if Reed can take up right where he left off last year: the backfield.
