Walter Nolen's father clears air after 5-star son's tweet

The proclamation from 2022's No. 2 overall recruit was retweeted over 300 times and sent multiple fanbases into a frenzy, seeing as Nolen is operating with a top-8 list and is just now starting to get out and visit schools. 247Sports talked with Nolen’s father shortly after the tweet was put out and clarified his son’s comments.

“He said he’s getting tired of it,” the elder Walter Nolen said of the recruiting process, adding his son fields a lot of phone calls from coaches. In fact, shortly after Nolen's tweet, Texas A&M “reoffered.”

The Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict at Auburndale product will continue through his process with a visit to Georgia set for Thursday.

“It’s probably going to be after all the visits,” Nolen’s dad said of a final decision.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Nolen has an official visit scheduled to Michigan the weekend of June 18. He is planning on taking trips to see Alabama, LSU and Georgia down the road.

Florida did impress Nolen and his family.

"Great," Nolen's father Walter said of the trip. "A1 University. Everything, coaches, players, campus professors. They did a great job with their presentations and making us feel welcome.”

It also makes me feel a little better about his visit to Michigan. If he's coming here for no real reason.....I can't imagine he's going up there with actual interest either.

He's going up there to see his family and see how crazy Hairball really is in person. Then he'll go back down south laughing, and eventually commit to Florida

For certain recruits, I think interest in general and trips to Ohio State (and to a much lesser extent Michigan) mostly serves the function of making the southern suitors anxious and willing to up their recruitment efforts in various ways.
