The Basketball Tournament (Carmen's Crew = 2019 Champions)

I love, love, love the Elam Ending. Two teams playing basketball to decide the winner, and fouling your opponent is actually a bad thing. What a concept.
I will limit my affinity to two "loves".

The ending should only be applied to games that meet a certain point spread. If you have two teams going head to head let them battle it out. A world without overtime games is not a pleasant thought for me.

If they would have stuck with the idea of an intentional foul and made it a real penalty (one shot and the ball, two shots and the ball with the third such infraction) we wouldn't need such an ending.

Sullinger is the general manager and coach of this year's Carmen's Crew. The Columbus native said he didn't know how challenging being a GM and coach could be, even for a summer league tournament.

"I realize how tough it is to be a GM and a coach," he said. "A lot of people want to play for Carmen's Crew but you gotta do what's best for the group and to win $1 million, essentially. It was a lot of tough work, a lot of long hours just making phone calls, trying to persuade guys to play, (and) I think we got a good group of guys."

Sullinger decided not to play despite that being a goal of his former teammates.

"I think we're more dynamic," Sullinger said when asked how this team compares to the 2019 group that won the title. "We added some great pieces to the pieces we already had and we're looking forward to going out and competing on Friday."

If college basketball had the horse sense to just discourage fouling by making the punishment fit the crime then I'd there with you. But as long as foul-o-rama remains part of the game, the Elam Ending is superior.

All they need to do is two things: get rid of the 1-and-1. It should've been gone the moment the three-point shot arrived. Even if you "make your free throws" the opponent can come back. Two: After 10 fouls, it's two shots AND possession. Just like that, we're playing basketball until the end of the game rather than watching foul after foul.

Paul Keels and Dan Dakich on the call from Columbus. Yes, please!

Also, I would have bet a TON of money that I would not hear someone talking about Perry Carter on ESPN tonight.
