Ohio State vs. Walsh
Day: Sunday
Date: Nov. 8, 2015
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Time: 4:00 p.m. ET

Coverage – TV: BTNPlus – 97.1 The FAN Radio

The Walsh Cavaliers have been enjoying their annual exhibition against the Buckeyes in Columbus and dropped a low scoring affair last season by a score of 77 to 37. The Cavaliers have a returning player that scored ten of those points in Jesse Hardin Jr. and he provides some nice match-up issues for the Buckeyes in this glorified practice.

School: Walsh University

School Type: Private School

Built: Fall 2009
Head Coach: Jeff Young – 11th Season
Experience & Accomplishments Has been associated with the program since 1986, where he began his career as a player. In 2004, he was hired as the university’s 12th head basketball coach. Prior to his appointment, Young served eleven plus years as an assistant to former Head Coach Steve Loy. Won a an NAIA National Title 2005
Program History First year of basketball was in 1962-63 and carry an all-time record of 908-569 with 14 seasons in the post season. Walsh has been NCAA D2 for two seasons now in the GLIAC and got their first top 25 ranking in D2 last season.

The Cavaliers were selected to finish third in the GLIAC South this season and are led by Jesse Hardin Jr. a 6’2″ senior guard out of Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, and Trey Fletcher a 6’6″ junior forward from Ironton. Both averaged in double figures last season with Hardin Jr at 16.5 and Fletcher putting up 13.9.

They are supported by junior guard Zac Carter out of Ironton and someone that Buckeye fans should know for sure, Ronnie Stokes who saw limited time as a reserve last year but should be in the mix this season.

The Buckeyes are led by returning star Jae’Sean Tate and have an expected riches of young contributors in Keita Bates-Diop, freshman JaQuan Lyle, and of course returning starter Marc Loving. You should also look for balanced scoring and defense with sophomores Kam Williams and Trevor Thompson.

The Buckeyes have a lot to replace from last years team but have the talent and ability to get it done early. They also have a chance here to really try some things out against the over-matched Cavaliers.. Look for Thad Matta to rotate players early and often and to try and figure out ways to get Austin Grandstaff in to shoot. I see him as the dark-horse 6th man this season.
