scUM Buster

kick some ass
I am one happy Buckeye fan. Sure, I'd rather we didn't have 4 losses right now. But, for me, a Michigan win makes this a great season. I'd rather be 7-4, unranked, with a Michigan spanking than 9-2, ranked, with a loss to Michigan. It is great to be a Buckeye!!

Obviously, I would rather we be undefeated or with only 1 or two losses and having still beaten scUM. But, for me, the Michigan win is worth a couple of regular season losses. I would rather have the season as it went than if we had beaten NW, Iowa, and Purdue (and lost to Wisc. and scUM).

I agree!

Come on people... listen to what the man is saying. 9-2, but one of the two is to tsun the last game of the season. It's not like we'd be going to a BCS bowl.. that's "the bowl formerly known as Citrus" territory and would have put JT at 2-2

Instead we had a somewhat frustrating year, but ended on a VERY high note. We didn't eek out a win against tsun... we kicked their butts... SOUNDLY.... and looked good doing it! The future is bright and *ichigan fans hate it, but JT is 3-1.

As far as I am concerned, if we don't make a BCS bowl, but beat scUM, it is a good season in my book-if we have have a win against scUM, I am a happy camper. On the other hand, if we lose to scUM, we better still be winning a BCS bowl game-like last year.
I got SOOOOOO sick of kicking butt every year under Cooper but choking durng the scUM game-it was like the whole season was just a tease. On the other hand, I will remember Saturday for a long time, I won't remember the Wisky or Purdue games much beyond next year.
I think Tressel knew this game was huge for him as a coach-win and he is 3-1 against scUM and has his rep as a scUM killer intact. Lose-he is 2-2, w/two consecutive losses to scUM-people will be getting antsy.

I wouldn't call it a great season. Great ending, yes. Happy we beat scUM, most definitely.

7-4, 4-4 in the big10, unranked and going to the alamo bowl is certainly not a great season though.

He said "Successful Season", not a great season. I would say the season, despite being quite disappointing conference-wise, is still successful for several reasons:

1.) Got both Zwick and Smith, along with a bunch of other younger pups, big time game experience, and probably found our starting QB for the next two years.

2.) Won a tough road OOC game at NC State, a team that was waiting for payback for a year.

3.) Broke in Snyder as DC. He's has markedly improved since the beginning of the season.

4.) The team showed extreme resiliency after 3 straight conference losses, especially a tough loss at Northwestern and a major ass spanking at Iowa.

5.) The emergence of Ted Ginn.

6.) The near total destruction of Michigan.

A season can be both successful and disappointing. This season could be the framework for several historic seasons, just like 2001 was for 2002 and 2003.

I like to think of it as 'acceptably unacceptable' following the spanking of the Weasels. A bowl win will go a good way towards my being able to write it all off as nothing more than natural growing pains. Some may call that denial, but I'd argue that some denial is healthy.

Mili, he actually said both. Not that it matters too much, but for what it's worth...

Good points about all the "successful things" we did this year, however. I think it will be a great springboard hopefully just like 2001 was for the NC run.

As JT said, the team has been evolving. Considering all events since end of last Fiesta Bowl, the Bucks have gone from a work in progress, without leadership, to a season-ending contender for next year. The Bowl game will afford us valuable practice time, while spring ball will hone competition for next season.

Throughout the difficult last 6 mos., JT and staff have conducted themselves with poise and professionalism.

I'd rather go to the Rose Bowl than the Alamo Bowl.
