Parker Fleming (Official Thread)

Let's give Flemming credit for having special teams looking competent and well organized.
Without researching I feel like we do well in terms of coverage and returns (not sure about punt returns).
But he doesn't deserve credit for Ruggles being nails.
Unless he is unbeknownst to me some sort of kicking guru. If Ruggles was 50% of FG's assuming the misses weren't the result of operational error, then it wouldn't reflect on Flemming.
I still would rather have another dedicated defensive coach to balance out the fact our HC is an offensive coach and we already have 5 dedicated offensive assistants to 4 on D.
I've literally never heard Parker's name in terms of recruiting.
Well Ruggles transferred here after Fleming was promoted to ST coach and reached out to him directly, and then Fleming picked him to start over Siebert, so that’s not nothing. (Diddy may also note that Ruggles was just 19-for-27 on FGs at UNC)

I mean, Parker’s not on the kickoff units either, but I’m going to give him some credit for both being top-10 units nationally.

Additional bonus points for a lack of strippers and monkeys?

Valid points.
I just wanted to emphasize I don’t hold the ST coach accountable either way for a kicker unless the operations pre-kick are FUBAR.

Flemming is doing a good job.
I just question the value of a dedicated ST coach in an era where returns are becoming obsolete.

Day himself has said he is in favor of getting rid of kickoffs.

Again Flemming is doing his job well.

Right. Ask @alexhortdog95 about how he feels about their ST coordinator not being fired this week with the rest of the offensive staff…

Maybe Parker Fleming is #4; but, #1 Special Teams Coach = Jay Harbaugh

Somehow that list just lost a lot of credibility.

But haven’t we known for years that Jay was truly “Special?”

PARKER FLEMING
ON HOW HE SCOUTS OPPONENTS AND THEIR SPECIAL TEAMS UNITS
  • "Special teams is different than offense and defense. As the special teams coordinator, I will try to get my hands on whatever I can."
  • Fleming said he looks at snappers, kickers, punters and holders to see how teams use their special teams units and to learn what they do well.
  • "We want any advantage we can find."
ON JESSE MIRCO AND MASON ARNOLD'S PERFORMANCES AGAINST PENN STATE
  • When we woke up and walked outside, Jesse turned to me and said, "Wow. What a great day to be a punter." Fleming said the air was perfect for kicking and punting the ball.
  • Fleming said Arnold has performed well as a long snapper with Robinson recovering from an injury. He looks forward to seeing what Arnold can do as he grows more comfortable in his role as a long snapper.
ON NOAH RUGGLES
  • Fleming said Ruggles shows up daily and performs consistently each time he steps on the football field. He said Ohio State never has to worry about whether or not Ruggles will be at the top of his game on Saturdays.
  • Fleming said Ohio State will need Ruggles down the stretch and believes the Buckeyes will rely on him more than once to make a kick in crunch time.

I don't know Ross Fulton but looking at the movements and reactions of some players he may be on to something. Oh well.
