Just had a weird "Its a small world" moment today. Our offices were closed last Friday for Good Friday and I had a slew of voicemails when I came in this morning. One was from an attorney representing a developer I have been dealing with recently. She was calling from Cleveland and said her last name very quickly and I only caught part of it. I ended up talking to her later on a call and she said her name again. After we were done wiht business I asked her if she grew up near Akron. She asked if I was the "John Doe" that she knew? Before I responded I asked if she went to X grade school and we realized we went to grade school together.

I have not seen her since grade school and here we are talking about some project that was thrown at her last minute as the primary attorney is on vacation this week. She left OH for law school, returned and is practicing in Cleveland. I move to Michigan after grad school and haven't seen anyone I went to grade school for a good seven years. Oddly, we end up talking on a project simply because her coworker is on vacation. What a small world.

Anyone have any good small world stories that have happened to them?

An obscure little educational video shown in my VA high school included a brief interview with the MA doctor who delivered me... pretty darn cool to see the first person I ever 'met.'

Oiler - she was ok but I wouldn't say hot.

When I was in high school, I worked over the summers at a place called Apollo Ice in Maryland.

Years later, while stationed at Camp Pendleton, I got on a bus and ran into one of my old work mates. He had also joined the Marines.

Checking out my high school's website, I found we had a place to post a "Where are you now" type of thing. As I was reading it, I found that a girl I went to school with now lives in Powell. (Remember, I went to Daytona Beach Mainland in Florida) We met for lunch a few times and got the kids together a few times. I haven't talked to her in well over a year now though.

When I was a junior in high school, I met this hot chick at Cedar Point. She lived up near Cleveland, and I lived in the center of the universe (Mansfield), but I drove up there several times and saw her. After my father kicked my ass for the $200 long distance bill I had racked up, I never talked to her again. Then, two years later, I walked by her in the Oval, and she stopped, turned around, and asked if I was me. I said, of course I'm me. Then she says, well, you're a fucking asshole for never calling me. Then she walked away.

Man, good times...

I was flying home from Tulsa and was at the St. Louis airport and when I got to my gate for my flight to Columbus, one of my best freinds yelled my name. He was on the same flight home as he was in the army and was flying home from Fort Leonardwood (sp?).

First things first, is she hot/single and did you ask her out?

We are both married with little kids, so the asking part out is a big no. I only talked to her on the phone so I have no idea what she looks like now, but she was cute in grade school. She was the smartest and hardest working kid in the class.

On another small world note, my wife and I were in the airport years ago catching our return flight from our honeymoon. We were going through the airport and I hear someone yelling my first name. Well, it is a common name and I never turn the first time I hear it. After the person yells it again I turn and look and it is someone I went to grad school with. I had not seen her since we graduated and strangely ran into her at a small airport out of state.

The craziest story I ever heard involved a small town I used to live in a few years back. It is a really weird little town and I was very happy to get move away. Anyway, there was this group of swingers in town who decided to go to Brazil for a swingers vacation. Well, they picked this remote location to all get together, but they unfortunately ran into some other people from that same town who told everyone back home about how there was this group of swingers living in this little town. Quite the scandal.

My small world moment:

I moved to Boston after college. I only ran into one person from high school there, right outside of my office. She was someone I was kinda a school-friend with.

Anyway, I moved to New York after Boston. I have only run into one person from high school here too - the same person. She had moved here and I ran into her on the F train. Weird.

That is what the rest of us refer to as a stalker.

Sorry, as a (recently) single 23 year old...I have a one track mind and assume everyone is in my same situation.

Nice thread idea :)

Okay, so a few years ago I was renting a small house in Fort Collins and one day met the next-door neighbors. We got to talking and I said I was from Toledo, Ohio. The wife said her ex-boyfriend was from Lima. I said 'oh yeah? A guy I went to grade school with moved away (from like the 4th grade) to Lima' As it turned out, it was the same guy. I thought that was pretty wierd.

I don't know if this really fits in here, but I went to my Great Aunt's funeral last week and they had some pictures of her up all over the place. There were pics of her with guys like Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and a bunch of others famous people. I thought that was pretty cool.
