You don't win today with the recruits you're getting right now; it literally takes two years for spotty recruiting to show up. Y'all want to pretend we're beating Ohio State with plugs; the best players on *this* Michigan team right now are 4 and 5 stars and we're not getting 4 and 5 stars to replace them. Our recruiting has demonstrably taken a hit since 2020, and it's not looking up for this year either. I don't know what else to tell you but your comment demonstrates a lack of understanding about how recruiting works and why a school like Michigan is dipping so heavily into the transfer portal as guys age out.

Beating OSU the past two years was great; I appreciate both of those two Big 10 championships. And we're recruiting at an 8-4 level right now, which means if we don't get it turned around it's not going to last. I'm not sure I can help you understand "how time and roster graduation work."

Glad to see this from a *ichigan fan because I have thought the same thing as an avid recruiting follower. The last two years have absolutely sucked for us because we have lost with better talent on paper, and badly. 2 years ago I can get with a do or die situation that Harbaugh faced, plus being at home and our defense was atrocious even against MAC schools. This year it was unacceptable at home with a supposedly improved defensive scheme.

But the part I very much agree with is that the recruiting gaps take a little time to show up and I think Harbaugh is not particularly adept to bring in blue-chip guys every year, even with the recent success. He seems to develop players well, but I think he would get over the hump if he got the talent up in recruiting and then developed that talent, rather than developing 3* types into better players than they were as recruits. Not trying to pile on or anything, I just tend to agree that the recent success is not sustainable if the recruiting doesn't get better.

As to the recent investigation, it will be interesting to see what the NCAA can actually do here, or will try to do. OSU has consistently fucked itself on recruiting violations by admitting everything and bending over voluntarily. Everyone just needs to tell the NCAA to go fuck itself and carry on. Poor Tressel tried to be a choir boy and got demolished for it. Everyone follow the SEC script in either denying allegations, or just refuse cooperating with the NCAA. It has worked out very well for every team that has taken that approach. But if the NCAA tries to make an example of *ichigan and try to show they have teeth, I will start buttering the popcorn.

Next year will be the big test. They lost some pieces and their defensive depth is bad but with the absurdly weak schedule and Corum & Edwards both back it'll be hard for them to not win at least 10 games.

Conceivably after this year they at least lose Corum and likely Edwards too. McCarthy is probably gone with any kind of decent season as well.

They have NOBODY currently to replace those 3. QB depth behind McCarthy is a laughable joke and it looks like they are going to struggled to land a elite QB for the 2024 class. RB depth after Corum and Edwards is pretty bad, none of those guys looked very capable when they got to play this year.

And that's before you even mention a bigger chunk of the super super seniors finally trickling out.

The biggest secret nobody knows about Michigan is that for all of our "training up the 3 stars" cred, the reality is the 12-2 team, and the 13-1 team were built around 4 and 5 star athletes we recruited BEFORE 2021. You can fill in the holes with 3 star super seniors, you can train up a Ronnie Bell once in a while, but imagine this year's Michigan team without:

JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, Mazi Smith, Will Johnson, Cornelius Johnson, Roman Wilson, Mason Graham, and a couple other key backups.

That's an 8-4 team even with a dogcrap schedule. And that's where we're headed after this season, based on those last two recruiting classes. It's very, very awkward and it's why I won't be sad to see Harbaugh go if this really is his last ride.
