Keita Bates-Diop: 2014 Forward Adds Ohio State to List of Offers

Mike Mullins, director of the Illinois Wolves? AAU program, tweeted out of Friday afternoon that 2014 forward Keita Bates-Diop has picked up a new scholarship offer from Ohio State.

The Buckeyes, who have handed out a number of offers this week, became the latest high-major and the latest Big Ten program to offer Bates-Diop.

In addition, Nigel Hayes (2013), Jalen Lindsey (2014), and Sindarius Thornwell (2013) are among those who have also picked up offers from the Buckeyes over the course of the past week or so.

As for Bates-Diop, the 6-foot-7 forward continues to blossom into one of the more highly-regarded recruits, not only in the Midwest, but in the nation.

An Illinois-native, Bates-Diop currently attends University H.S. (IL).

In addition to Friday?s offer from Ohio State, Bates-Diop also holds scholarships from DePaul, Illinois, Kansas State, Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Stanford and Wisconsin.

In preparation of his junior year, the forward can look back at a very successful summer in terms of his recruitment.

Bates-Diop remains on the radar for many high-profile programs, ranging from a number of the nation?s power conferences. In fact, Mullins also tweeted on Friday that Florida is the latest school to express interest.

ESPN ranks Bates-Diop at No. 43 in the nation within the class of 2014. Rivals pins the forward at No. 42.

Keita Bates-Diop was going to visit Michigan State (last) weekend. That (did not) happen, unfortunately, due to a death in his family. He visited Ohio State (a few weekends ago). The visit went well. That said, Michigan, Purdue and Illinois are the three that have established themselves. What's weird is this recruitment has gone from no one feeling real good about their chances to everyone feeling real good about their chances. What does that mean? I have absolutely no idea. It's interesting nonetheless, and Michigan's right there with Keita and his parents. Michigan has played that card well. He has visited and they've been right there (in his recruitment).

Huge pickup because you have to feel like 2014 is going to be a t0p-3 class. And making in-roads into Illinois will only help us with guys like Okafor as well.

Just like that, with one recruit, Matta flips the script. Love it!
