SF Alonzo Gaffney (transfer to NW Florida, transfer to Arizona St.)

Kid is a good rebounder.

He must be practicing better for Holt to put him in vs NC.... I like that he keeps trying to build the kids confidence after mistakes

Reminds me of Keita in that Holtmann will probaby have to insert that dog mentality and confidence. It's almost like they dont know how good they actually are

do not quite understand what is going on here. He plays a few minutes at the barn, puts in a 15' jumper, does not turn the ball over, seems to be doing okay on defense, next thing I know is back on the bench. Do not know what Ahrens had over him yesterday but something is very strange.

He is too far behind mentally on defensive concepts. Ahrens played some with Holt having the hope that maybe he would hit an outside shot or two to help get some floor spacing back. Gaffney is too inconsistent at EVERYTHING right now to give Holt clear reasons to play him in a game where we are trying to battle back from behind.

Ideally, next season Gaffney will "get" the defense well enough that we can use his length for help D and it will be an asset. And if he can get a little stronger it might create a high baseline for him as a rebounder.

I think hindsight is 20/20 is the other thing. If he knew Ahrens was going to yield nothing, maybe Holt sticks with Gaffney some more. Though, funny enough, on the 247 board one poster started a thread where his whole argument was that Ahrens should have started and played major minutes last night.

Probably saw this Tweet about possible playing time and he probably got the shakes and that is why he will not be playing tonight. Alonzo has been somewhat of a disappointment this season. Expected him to be more of a contributor. Not sure about "next year".
gaffney has been sick a lot this year. not just referring to tweaked ankles or whatnot. this is at least the third time that the ambiguous "illness" has kept him from being able to play.

also seems... odd... that gaffney is reported as sick despite ho1tmann just yesterday talking about gaffney getting minutes tonight.
