Perry Eliano (Official Thread)

Coach Eliano ticks a lot of boxes. His two starting CBs this past year were a couple of the best in college football. Anyone good enough to coach like that on Fick's staff certainly gets your attention. I like that he's a hometown Texas dude and has good connections down there (UTSA). Would be great to land another future Buckeye great DB from down there. And Eliano has former coordinator, leadership, and special teams coach experience. Check, check, and check

If he teaches looking back for the ball, (**memory goes back to Jeff Hafley's answer during his introductory press conference**) ...I think this could be a great hire for our D

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Coach Eliano!

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Coach Eliano!

And before people start to ask, his recruiting is also on a national scale: AL, MD(secured a recruit from Haskins' HS), IN(secured a recruit from Caden Curry's HS) and all the top Cincinnati high schools. It also helps that his best CB was from a Detroit, MI power. Sounds like Eliano has been able to get into the top HSs, but a name like OSU can ensure him getting some of the elite players.

Always a plus, pnuts......professional success as a developer of talent, young enough to connect with the young men, and representing a franchise like tOSU sounds like a trifecta to me. Now all they have to do is produce. Two first rounders out of the D backfield next year could cement that reputation. Go Bucks!

I think those 1st rounders may need one more year in the program...

When looking at his record, it looks questionable. His top 5 recruits of all time are one 4* and four 3*s. His 247 recruiting ranking is #112.

There is no question when he's recruiting for OSU, he'll get in more doors and with players that are in higher demand. Unfortunately, Knowles has a terrible track record as a recruiter. I don't know Tim Salem's track record, but it's been 10 years since he recruited.

Coombs and Washington were good to great recruiters. The defensive recruiting suffered from the Grinch experiment, and Hafley leaving a few years ago.

If Salem, Knowles and Eliano don't significantly up their game, the Buckeye defense may not have the talent we are accustomed to seeing in the past.

I think Day may be gambling his job on these three hires.
