RB Trey Sermon (2020 B1G CCG MVP, Indianapolis Colts)

INJURED OHIO STATE RUNNING BACK TREY SERMON “DOING WELL,” TRAVELING BACK TO COLUMBUS ON TUESDAY

Trey Sermon's Monday night in Miami didn't go as planned.

The late-rising Ohio State running back suffered an apparent upper-body injury in the first drive of the national championship game against Alabama that caused him to head to the visiting locker room and subsequently require a trip to a local hospital. However, he appears to have avoided anything major.

Sermon is "doing well" and will be traveling back to Columbus on Tuesday following the 52-24 loss, a team spokesman said that morning. His mother, Natoshia Mitchell, told the Columbus Dispatch that his injury is "not serious," though both she and the football program declined to share the specifics of it. After the game, head coach Ryan Day had said the tailback was sore and "certainly in pain."

Yeah, but he already graduated from Oklahoma and was never more than a 1 year player. The last couple games (before the CFP CG) he really showed what he can do and should do very well in the NFL draft.

He is ranked as the No. 3 draft-eligible running back by ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.

Not saying that Kiper knows shit about the NFL draft, but if he is the 3rd best running back that should make him (at least) a 2nd round pick, etc.

I never expected he'd be back, especially with his injury history. Just a real shooting star quality to his career here.

Ohio State senior RB Trey Sermon declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Sermon's declaration comes as no surprise given how he finished off the 2020 season. Though he did miss most of the title game, Sermon (6'1/215) was a menace in the two games leading up to the national title game. Sermon ripped off 29 carries for 331 yards and two touchdowns vs Northwestern in the Big Ten title before crushing Clemson in the playoff semifinal with 31 carries for 193 yards and a score. What Sermon lacks in high-end speed, he makes up for with impressive vision and a mean rushing style that lends to squeezing the most out of even the most mundane rushes. Sermon's real concern is injuries, notably the knee injury he suffered at Oklahoma in 2019. Look for Sermon's name to be called sometime early-ish on Day 3.

Just sayin': With a good medical report he'll be a day 2 pick.

One of the small but really cool things I noticed yesterday was seeing “Ohio State star RB” next to his name as the news scrolled across various outlets.

Not sure that type of coverage was in store back in August, or even up until October/November.

He stuck with the program and system and left with a nice legacy in a short time. Now he gets to be a “star”. Goes to show what can be done at OSU to elevate your game for the next level (also see Brown, Noah).
