RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

I think I'm more excited to watch Henderson this year than any other awesome weapon we have. Just got a feeling

I am with you, in terms of sheer excitement to see a guy with the ball in his hands in the open field, he is the most exciting player we have had since Teddy Ballgame imo. I know that is a bold statement and we have had many playmakers, but I was at the opener in Minnesota for the opener last year and we were really struggling to make a play. Then Henderson took that swing pass and looked like he had freaking NOS in the tank splitting that seam, then throws up the deuces as he crosses the goal line...that was next level shit there and every Minnesota fan around me just started asking who the hell is that guy? Only real weakness was breaking through some tackles on the second level before he hit the jets (and I am seriously nit picking there big time), but I think some Coach Mic time is going to fix that pretty quick.

Edit: Had to go back and watch some TG highlights...Tre can run like the wind, but Ginn had an Olympic sprinter gear that when it was hit, I'm pretty sure everyone else on the field just stopped. Holy shit TG was fast.

Tony Alford Not Expecting Sophomore Slump From TreVeyon Henderson

Fast-forward three years and TreVeyon Henderson enters his sophomore season after leading the Buckeyes in rushing with 1,255 yards as a true freshman. He will be sharing the workload this year with redshirt sophomore Miyan Williams, who opened the 2021 season as the Buckeyes’ starting running back.

Recent history and current present have people wondering if Henderson might suffer the same sophomore fate as Dobbins. Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford hasn’t seen any reason to worry about it to this point, however.

“Well, we talked about it,” Alford said back in May. “We’ve talked about it, but they’re two different types of kids. Trey is much more reserved than JK. JK was much more flamboyant and kind of ‘out there.’ Whereas Trey’s not. So is it talked about? Yeah, but they’re different mentalities as far as how they go about their business, right? In the public eye, they’re very different. Not saying one’s worse or better, nothing like that. They’re just different. And so with that being said, some of the conversations are different of how we’re handling that. To this point, I haven’t seen any issues with Trey that are alarming to me. If I did, he knows I would certainly speak on those.”
.
.
.
Henderson is completely bought in on splitting some portion of carries, but don’t take that to mean he doesn’t want as many as they’ll give him.

“Yeah, he is. He is. I know he is. He’s bought into that,” Alford said of splitting reps. “He’s bought into whatever we need to do. And you know, JK came around to that too, but again, it wasn’t that, ‘well, I’m splitting carries.’ He’s just competitive. It’s not that he didn’t want someone else to get carries. It wasn’t that. He’s confident in his own abilities and he’s just a competitive guy by nature, and I’m good with that. Everyone thought that that was a problem. That’s a problem? To me, that’s not a problem. I would rather that than, ‘Oh yeah, please do take my reps. Please do pull me out.’

“And guess what, Trey doesn’t wanna come off the field. He wants to play. In the spring game he played seven reps and he was pissed. Like ‘Coach?’ And I remember I took my whistle off and handed it to him and said, ‘Well, you can coach then, but here’s what we’re gonna go do.’ And he kind of laughed, but don’t mistake that as being like, ‘I don’t want the ball,’ or ‘I don’t want to play.’ He just understands what we’re doing.”

Maturity key to TreVeyon Henderson's even better sophomore season

Check the odds for Ohio State’s star offensive players to win accolades this season and you’ll see quarterback C.J. Stroud as a favorite for the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is certainly near the top of the shortlist to take home the Biletnikoff Award.

While TreVeyon Henderson was on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, the Buckeye running back isn’t getting the same kind of love as his two offensive teammates heading into 2022. He is behind both Stroud and Smith-Njigba when it comes to Heisman odds and is the third most likely running back, according to the oddsmakers, to take home the famous bronze statue.

But sleeping on Henderson could be a mistake.

“I think he's lightyears better,” Scarlet and Gray running backs coach Tony Alford said of Henderson on Friday. “I think he's lightyears ahead of where he was.”

TREVEYON HENDERSON, PARIS JOHNSON JR., JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA, C.J. STROUD AND DAWAND JONES NAMED PRESEASON ASSOCIATED PRESS ALL-AMERICANS

Five Ohio State players received preseason All-American honors from the Associated Press on Monday.

Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, running back TreVeyon Henderson and offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. are all first-team selections, while quarterback C.J. Stroud and offensive tackle Dawand Jones made the second team.

Ohio State had the second-most players represented across the first and second teams with five, while No. 1-ranked Alabama led the way with six players.

As a true freshman last season, Henderson set an Ohio State freshman record for most total touchdowns (19) and ran for 1,248 yards.

Big Ten football players generating most buzz ahead of 2022 season

TREVEYON HENDERSON, RB - OHIO STATE

Only at Ohio State can you tally a program-record 19 touchdowns as a true freshman and be the third-most talked about player on offense entering the 2022 season behind C.J. Stroud and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. TreVeyon Henderson was unstoppable as a five-star, first-year player in 2021, rushing for 1,248 yards (6.8 yards per carry) and 15 scores. He added 27 receptions for 312 yards (11.6 yards per catch) and four additional touchdowns. There's a reason Henderson was the No. 1-ranked running back in the Class of 2021, and he showed why scouting comparisons to Christian McCaffrey hold water.

Yeah, and still would be a slim chance to win it. It's a QB award, his best bet is the Doak Walker
Which is ridiculous.

I wish the voters had the courage to change course. They would be questioned at first but people would quickly drop that as they realized it’s the right course of action.

Vote for the best damn player. Regardless of team wins and losses or position. It isn’t that hard.

Agree fully! But with only 3RBs and 1WR winning the award in 20yrs, I don't see that trend dying anytime soon, unless Treveyon or any RB has 2500+ total yards AND has a team competing for the NC.

Nevertheless, Treveyon is going to be an amazing RB in college.
