RB Ezekiel Elliott (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Pro Bowl, All Pro, New England Patriots)

The Dallas Cowboys Have a Zeke Elliott Problem

The Cowboys simply aren't getting what they paid for when they handed Elliott a six-year, $90 million contract with more than $50 million guaranteed last September.

In my 40+ years of following sports, I can't recall ever seeing an article about an athlete in any major professional sport, being worth the money after they have signed a big contract.

It's a canard that's been around as long as people who couldn't get a decent job have been writing about sports.

BRAINS OF THE FAMILY. Lailah Elliott had big shoes to fill when she followed in her brother's footsteps to become an Ohio State athlete. But a few years later, she's set to do something Zeke never did – graduate.

Huge congrats, Lailah. I'm terribly sorry for ruining the quality of your degree by wasting two of them writing clunky sports words online.

Ranking the NFL's richest players by Instagram post

10. EZEKIEL ELLIOTT, DALLAS COWBOYS

Price per post: $12,002

Engagement rate: 4.34

Surprised to see Zeke on this list and not Dak Prescott? Us too. But he's a bright personality when he holds onto the football and his crop top jersey even led college football to banning the bodacious style. In all seriousness, Ezekiel Elliott has the personality needed to be engaging on social media and use it to his advantage. In fact, his most recent post on Instagram is a paid partnership with AT&T, complete with his pup and free advertising for Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks. Elliott stays winning.

This NFL player earns more money per Instagram post than anybody in football — and it’s not Tom Brady

But before all of that, Alvarez took some time to play a round of golf with another person familiar with AT&T Stadium, former Ohio State and current Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. After a brief introduction, the two kicked off a 9-hole round with the loser of each hole having to answer a couple of interview questions.

We won’t spoil all the fun, but let’s just say that Alvarez’s golf game appears to be quite a bit better than Elliott’s because Zeke was full of answers to several interview questions.

Ezekiel Elliott is the NFL's highest-paid running back, yet some say the Dallas Cowboys star deserves an even larger pay day. The Cowboys agreed to terms with Dak Prescott on a mega four-year extension in March, and some of those funds should have been saved for Elliott, one anonymous NFL coach says, according to ESPN.

"They need to give Zeke some of Dak's money," an AFC defensive coach said, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "He scares you the most on that offense."

Last season, Elliott posted 4.0 yards per carry — a career low — and did not seem to have the same burst as in prior seasons.

An increased workload for Elliott is wearing on the ballcarrier, notes one NFL analyst, who recently pinned the former Ohio State star's fumbling issues on increased strain on his body. Despite some uncertainty regarding Elliott heading into the new season, Prescott and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore raved about Elliott through minicamp.

“Zeke looks great,” Prescott said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s in the best shape of his life. Looking fast. Everybody’s seen the clips of him working out independently with his running back coach. His cuts, just how explosive he is. Excited to have a full year with him again and getting him healthy throughout the whole season.”

After months of talk about how much he had progressed since the previous season, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott opened up his 2021 campaign with a bit of a lackluster performance when it came to his stat line. But while Elliott has received criticism for how poorly he played against the Buccaneers, he made it clear this week that he believes stats do not always tell the story.

“You can have a solid game without statistics,” Elliott said on Wednesday, according to Jane Slater of the NFL Network. “If people don’t understand that they should probably study the game more.”

Zeke only got 11 touches in that game. I think Dak had almost 60 pass attempts. The game is changing, if you watched week 1 the bell cow RB doesnt exist anymore in the NFL. Zeke would be better off being on a different team than being wasted in Jerrys world.
