RB DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum (transfer to Kentucky)

“I just expressed to them how much I felt like I could help the team at that point,” Trayanum said. “I saw the injuries and everything, and I just knew that I could be a potential factor if I was out there on the field at running back.”

Since the Buckeyes began their second half of the regular season against Iowa, Trayanum has been a full-time running back. And he’s thrilled to be back at his preferred position.

“I feel like I'm back more in my habitat and my environment,” Trayanum said Tuesday during an interview session at the Peach Bowl. “Not that I wasn't feeling comfortable at linebacker, but I'm definitely happy what I'm doing for the team right now.”

While Trayanum didn’t actually expect to play running back for Ohio State this year, he did envision playing in the College Football Playoff, which is why he transferred to OSU in the first place. The Akron native described the move to linebacker as a “sacrifice” he was willing to make for the opportunity to play for a national championship contender.

“For me, in the first place, it was just about going to what school was going to be the best offer for me on the table,” Trayanum said. “I was willing to sacrifice being at running back. And my sacrifice came true. I mean, this is what I sacrificed it for, a chance to play for a national championship.”

If he’s staying at RB it makes our LB “haul” more disappointing even with the fact our base set only has 2 on the field.

Steele coming back next year is big.
What do we think 2 Thumbs will do?

It’s the following year when things get dicey.

Tommy should go. His limitations aren't one's which will likely get better with another year. He's not going to be terribly more atheletic with another year etc. Only reason he should stay if they want him to prove it's not a one year wonder.

Hicks Should be ready next year or the year after but yeah I'm not sure who we have at the other spot

Two 225+ pound RBs is a tall order for a defense. I really think we can find success running the ball. At least more successful than what UGA is used to giving up rushing.

So long as it's a gap scheme running attack, sure.

If it's more zone blocking, the backs may go more side to side looking for daylight, which takes away their biggest trait which is their size/physicality.

37. Chip Trayanum, Ohio State, running back

The versatile Buckeye made 13 tackles as a linebacker and then, when injury hit the OSU offense, shifted to running back and gained 83 of his 92 rushing yards in the Michigan game. The 5-11, 233-pound senior had run for 10 touchdowns in his two seasons as a power back at ASU before transferring to Columbus. Trayanum is a big, strong, explosive dude. He bench-pressed 415 and squatted 650 this offseason, but he also ran a 40 in the high 4.3s and had a max velocity of 22.2 MPH.

He may move ahead of Miyan if Miyan continues to be nicked up.
