RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

For those of you wondering as to how Carlos' visit to OSU went....well as per a few sources including Bill Kurelic on the free board on BN he did not make it here but will visit with his family tomorrow, wednesday 18th. He is currently in Cincy with family.

Things are still looking pretty positive for us to land a commitment from him tomorrow. Just thought I'd put that in there in case people anyone started worrying unduly.

After watching the videos again(it'd been a couple months) he reminds me a lot of Jamal Lewis for the Browns. Big back who's a load to bring down. Doesn't dance needlessly but can when he needs to. Short choppy steps around the line of scrimmage, but when he gets through and can turn on the burners he certainly does.

IIRC, Lewis was timed in the 4.4-4.3 range while at TN. Not sure if Hyde has those kind of jets.

maybe with the work of the osu S&C staff he'll get down to like 4.4's. right now he's at 4.55 I believe I read?

I think if you look at the "way" he runs, with some slight modifying of his technique he can shave some time perhaps. Something just looks funky in his stride to me. However that is not so much as a negative comment in his abilities just I dunno looks awkward I guess? Either way a back with that size running in the 4.5's is not someone a DB is gonna wanna take a shot at.

In looking at some old storied and info via google, I've seen the 4.3 times at Tennessee reported...as well as 4.4 times and a 4.58 time from a site that was reviewing NFL draft prospects. Regardless...Lewis could and can still really move for a friggen tank.

Safe to say Hyde lacks anything in the vicinity of 4.3 speed...but I can see why the poster made the comparison that he did make. It appears Hyde can rumble like a big RB should...but has the potential to be just fast enough to break some big gainers if he gets loose in the secondary (or when the secondary gets tired of tackling him head-on).

I'll take the 235 lb 4.55 guy who squares his pads and runs north and south any day.
Let Jamaal be the cut-back guy who breaks it back and hits the home run.
When you get down inside the 5, and you've got a great O-line along with T Pryor, having the big guy in there keeps the D honest and makes your whole goal line package VERY effective.

Power backs will ALWAYS be in high demand in Columbus. They are our bread and butter. Even our speed backs these days (Saine, Berry if/when he verbals to us) are power backs in a speed back's body.

Love watching this kid's film. He's not going to get the attention from the media that a lot of our playeres are going to, but this kid is going to be a stud at the next level and I would LOVE to see him in S&G in an I-formation or the afforementioned (sp?) pony formation with the ball in his hands.

Well said, BuckTwenty! Gotta good feeling about his skills...and desire, which makes me feel he might be grossly underrated, even by us. Hope to even start hearing 'Eddie' comparisons someday soon. A 1-2 with him and anybody else we have back there.....with Pryor !! :yow1:

Am I missing something here? Last time I checked J. Lewis has and always will be a north/south im going to run you over runner. However, he does have the speed to break some big ones if he can make a safety miss/break the tackle. I see Hyde having the exact same style and ability is what I am saying. Is he as fast right now? From the video I have seen absolutely not. Do I think he can obtain a little more speed in the next few years to make the comparison ring truer? I think theres a good chance.

And Nightmare I agree 100% with your opinion. Give me Archie, Eddie, and Wells 7 days a week and twice on Saturdays. Lets just hope the 3rd of that group can bring home what the first two did(along with that NC trophy).
