QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

Five-star QB Quinn Ewers remains locked in with Ohio State

Following a throwing session that demonstrated why he is a can’t-miss football prospect, Ewers talked about a wide array of topics, including unsubstantiated rumors that he was wavering on his commitment.

“I haven’t heard a whole lot about that, but it’s funny that you say that,” Ewers told BuckeyeGrove. “My message is that I haven’t really talked to any other coaches besides, obviously, Coach Day, Coach Dennis and those guys. So, I’m pretty locked in with my decision.”

A person can make the argument that tOSU is deserving of the moniker, “Wide Receiver University.” After all, two of their wideouts – Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson – are expected to be first round picks in 2022, and next year’s receiver room will feature former five-stars Emeka Egbuka, Jaxon Smith-Nijigba and Julian Fleming.

This is an embarrassment of riches, and Ewers says he’s looking forward to throwing to this elite wide receiver corps.

“It’s crazy,” Ewers said. “It’s crazy having all that talent that just want to be a part of something special at Ohio State. I’m going to be blessed to have talent like that on the outside.”

ALPHA DOG -- QUINN EWERS, COMMITTED TO OHIO STATE
The Southlake (Texas) Carroll five-star and nation's No. 1 overall prospect on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and Top247 rankings did not disappoint. Ewers repeatedly showed all of the traits that have put him atop the 2022 class for the past year.

One of Ewers' most unique attributes is the second life his throws show on the back half. More than any other quarterback at Sunday's event, Ewers' throws seemed to accelerate as they progressed toward the receiver, as if the second half of the throw had another gear that other quarterbacks don't show.

Ewers does that while looking smooth and effortless in his tempo and delivery. He varied arm angles at will in rollout reps, as if challenging himself to mix it up and show his array of release points and functional athleticism in a more controlled setting.

Whether it was ripping throws over the middle of the field or the perimeter in the short-to-intermediate range, or unleashing downfield against a strong wind that did not affect his throw, Ewers lived up to the billing in earning his Elite 11 Finals invitation.

Mike Roach on Ewers:

— I attended the Grapevine state qualifying tournament for state 7v7 today with action at three sites. While at Southlake Carroll for their pool action, I spoke to some sources regarding five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers. I was told that recently contact between Texas and Ewers was going strong, but in the last two weeks Ewers decided to shut things down again. As of now, he's not taking any calls from other schools and wants to focus on his season. In talking to a key source today, it sounds like the door may be closing on a chance to get back in with him. Perhaps something changes in the fall, but this source was pretty firm in saying it's dead for now.

I'd say this is good news. But you still keep pursuing this kid.
