And when kids do stupid shit they don't deserve to be called out? To me that's the point. It's not "where they hang out" it's putting them in their place when clearly warranted.

When a kid says stupid shit, an adult has two choices*
1) ignore because, well, they are just a dumb ass kid who doesn't know anything
2) engage and validate their stupidity

*I'm not talking about our jobs as parents with our own dumbass kids

First, I have no respect for Kirk Herbstreit's modest 4 year career accomplishments as a QB at Ohio State, which are among the worst of Ohio State QBs ever.

Herbsteit 4 year career total accomplishments

  • 5 TDs 11 Ints
  • 2437 yds passing, 7 yd avg, 56.4% completions
  • 140 yds rushing
  • 1 win as a starter against a ranked team (Louisville)
  • QB rating 114
  • Best season 3 losses 1 tie
  • Signature win a tie with TSUN
I have even less respect for his vapid ego-centric opinions and announcing.

Herbsteit is on a sinking ship and his big "asset" is status as a former Buckeye QB. This is nothing less than a pathetic attempt to try to curry favor with Urban Meyer, as was wearing Florida colors to call the game with Oklahoma.

Second, I hope this has taught this young man about discretion on twitter.

No he acknowledges he didn't have a successful career. His success on TV is a credit to him I feel. Sure having been a former QB here probably got him into the interview but Kirk deserves credit for the career he built.

Again just don't get the disdain for a former buckeye. Yeah he's hard on us but I've seen much harsher here on BP from very respected folks. Hell every Saturday in the fall I'm probably an embarrassment of a fan while I watch the games but that doesn't i don't love this University because I do

He's an embarrassment for many many reasons that have all been well documented. It has nothing to do with his homerisim or lack thereof.

And when the first choice happens repeatedly, as it does in our society, they just get worse. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't find myself in the course of my routines that I don't look over at a kid doing stupid shit and think "For crying out loud, show that kid the back of your hand."

All you have to do is start on pg 1 of this thread and read to your heart's content...you'll quickly come to realize that despite his perceived biases, real or imagined, he's a colossal vapid douchebag who's nothing more than a character on TV that brings virtually nothing of value to any broadcast.

I agree but there is a big difference between engaging the kid by saying something like "show some respect" and leaving it at that versus the "I'm not a big fat poopy head, you are" kind of engagement which is what you are doing when you actually get into their nonsense with them.

Goes back to being the adult. Herbie fails.

And I disagree 100%... Sure he uses certain words more so then others but he's one of the better play by play folks there is. Whether that's telling to the quality of not who knows but id rather have Herbstreit over Beth No wind 10 of 10
