QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

He was said to be a Ck clone with a stronger arm but I say he is a Bellasari clone with less running tendencies.
Zwick is young and in his first year as a starter on one of the biggest college football stages in the country. He's made some mistakes and bad decisions, but A). that's to be expected from a young QB, and B). I do think that he's improving (despite Sat. night..).

Bellasari made the same mistakes over and over again all the way through his senior season. Comparing Zwick to Bellasari at this point is pretty short-sighted.

I don't think he's a Krenzel clone either, although he had a pretty nice running gain on Sat. that looked Krenzel-esque.

bn27,

I think Zwick won the starting job fair and square, but Mcmullen did the same over Ck but when he choked he was yanked. I think it's time to give Smith some time to get a feel for the game and see what he can do. CK proved that sometimes you just have to be a play maker. Mcmullen out practiced him all of the time.

Ross and Zwick are stinking it up !

I say give Haw and Pittman every carry. I wouldn't give Ross a carry for the rest of the year. And I would at least Give Smith and entire quarter(not just a series) to see what he can do.

Fortunately or unfortunately the time for that has passed. We are heading into the stretch where indecision could make us a 500 club and 0-3 in the B-10. Got to go with the horse that got us to 3-1 and appears to be the future of the team.

Where are the brains/accuracy/experience ?

Well-- the 'experience' part of this isn't Zwick's fault. And its not sitting over on the bench with Troy either.

As for the accuracy--- its not too bad... not too good...

As for the Brains... I don't know if he's getting us in the right palys or not.. if he's not... let Troy paly for a Quarter.. I don't have a problem with it.

Ross? Ouch. Have you ever been more frustarted with one guy...

no, ross is stinking it up.

or did you turn the game off just in time to miss our last TD drive? if santonio catches that 2nd down ball in OT the game would have been different. if smith was good enough he would have been in there. he isnt, he wasnt.

The only issue I have ant is that after the Marshall game, you proclaimed Zwick was the man, and you had seen the errors of your ways. Now you want Smith again. Seems you are a bit emotional and allow that to cloud your judgement rather than thinking logically. Pick one and stay on their side, but quit waffling. This O is doing the best they can with what they are dealt. When your idea of creativity is lining up 5 wides, then having all the receivers run the exact same route(5 yard stops), you are not allowing any QB to make plays.

Zwick made a few mistakes on Saturday, but he looked good for the most part and definitely wasn't alone in the mistake category. JZ single handedly led us back from 10 down in the 4th quarter to tie the game and send it to OT. The fumble at the end of the first half was bad, but JZ did a better job of securing the ball and running when he didn't see anything in the second half. The INT was a good pass that Backes made a great play on. Unfortunately it was a quick pattern and Zwick looked at the wrong side of the field because there was a man on the other side of the field that was wide open. I do wish JZ had picked on the other corner a little more because he seemed much weaker than Backes. That's easy to say from behind a TV. From my own playing experience I know it's much harder to see what is going on when the bullets are flying, especially when the OC and the guy calling the plays are standing on the sideline. I would like to see our WR run routes other than straight down the field. We have such great athletes and just don't use them like we should.
I don't think this is the time of the season to get Smith more time. The next 2 weeks the bullets are going to be flying faster than they have yet this year and I don't want a QB with almost no experience out there trying to deal with it. I would love to see Smith get some time on some trick plays because we need something to confuse the defense. I wish the coaches would take a look at what NU did to us and and use some of their plays.

CCjackets92,

Like I said, Zwick has been winning me over and when he appears to be the best man for the job, he has my support. But when it appears that he is not progressing and has began to throw the ducks he becoming famous for, I can't help but wonder if Smith or Boeckman need some snaps.

We may have lost that game right before halftime. We were gaining momentum and could of possibly taken the lead going into half but instead, Zwick fumbled again and gave NW all of the confidence they needed. They had beat us in two quarters of play and now believed they could do it again.

All I'm saying is, if multiple turnovers every game, taking stupid sacks, and leading us to a loss to NW for the first time in 33 years isn't enough to look at the other qb's, What is ?

Ross has not impressed me, but the line sure has not been making his job any easier. The small holes that do open are closed by the time he gets to them. Pittman just seems to get to them faster and is through them before they are closed.

-Over 200 yards of passing
-Nearly as many yards rushing (58) as both RB's combined if you take out the sacks
-Leading us back from 10 down in the 4th quarter
-team put 27 points on the board. How many times did CK need to score more than 27 points in regulation to win a game and do it?

BTW JZ didn't have any TO's against NCSt so you should take "every game" out of your post.

To be fair to antOSU: If you take JZ's numbers ytd and project them out they match almost exactly to Bellasari's junior year(2000). Yds, comp %, TD/INT everything.

That being said I still give him the benefit of the doubt due to the lack of game experience he has had. The numbers may look similar right now but he just looks better than SB.

However, if he is still making the same mistakes toward the end of the year and this stat line continues to be a 52% completion, 200 ypg, 1td for every INT type effort then, sad to say it, we probably have another SB on our hands.

antosu,
I don't know how you can make those assumptions when you've never been to one practice and only seen Troy Smith, Haw, and Pittman in an of the practices. Any athlete knows that you win/lose starting spots usually in practices first through hustle and showing what you have to offer in those practices to the coaches. I am not totally disagreeing with you in that Troy and Pittman have shown some flashes of brilliance, but overall I don't know how you can especially say that about Justin Zwick. I am not totally positive BUT I am pretty sure that NO new, green and starting QB, with only 4 starts, has done AMAZING and WOWed everyone. Maybe a few but its a rare thing in college football. Justin Zwick is in there because overall he is showing he has the potential to lead this team in the future. When he will take over, mature and totally command this team is anybodies guess, but when he does he si going to be a good one. Don't you think a guy who gets paid millions of dollars and is called coach, AND who won a national championship once already, is better qualified then you and I to make that call and has good reason to have Justin in there??? Smith is not doing all the right things yet. Who knows maybe that will change. But its still premature to make that call.
As for Ross ... hell thats a different subject. It would be great to have a good running game though.

I couldnt agree more....Ross frustrates me to no end and maybe some of you were watching another game, but the only reason we tied the game and in position to win is because of Zwick and Holmes.

Bottom line though is that the run game may not open up fully until Justin Zwick makes those opposing defenses pay by ripping apart the DB's and make them pay for cheating up to stop the run and stacking the line. Now thats not all the solutions to the run game, but it will help alot. Maybe another RB can do it but thats all speculation. I'd take either or ....
